Noah buried his face in the crook of Allee’s neck, breathing deep. “I don’t know if I should praise you for having the courage to do what you did or put you over my knee and spank you for provoking him with no backup.” He shuddered at the thought of Stuart getting his hands on Allee in retribution.

“Well, you could always bend me over and spank me as a reward…?”

Noah’s head jerked up, his eyes wide as he looked at her, and she bit her lip as her face flushed.

“Oh, sweetheart, I think I’m going to like this side of you.” Noah leered, playfully grabbing at Allee as she shrieked and launched away, chasing her up the stairs to her bedroom.

Stuart wouldn’t be getting his security deposit back for his room.

After that stunt that Allee had pulled at the traffic lights, he’d headed straight back there and exploded into a violent tantrum. Bedding had been shredded, mirrors shattered, and he’d put the chair through the television. She dared! She dared to behave that way towards him, after all he’d done for her, after all she’d put him through? Enough was enough. It was time to finally put her in her place.

Stuart’s hands shook as he ran them through his hair, mind racing, calculating, plotting how he would bring her down and beneath his feet where she belonged, once and for all.

Following their weekly meeting, Sammy shadowed Allee back to her office with Noah and Darryl close behind. He had an armload of printouts and a USB drive in his hand, anger suffusing his face. As Darryl passed through her door, he closed and locked it behind them so that they would not be disturbed.

“As I told you on Sunday, I hit up the guys yesterday about doing a deep search on Stuart,” said Darryl. “I didn’t expect anything back so soon, but the fact that he’s been pissing them off for the past few weeks seems to have lit a fire under them. Kestrel, one of the mods I was telling you about, has already unearthed a bunch of stuff, and it’s not pretty. Bloodnok, the other one, said he might have a lead on where Stuart – “

“Fuck-knuckle,” Allee interrupted.

“Fuck-knuckle?” Darryl asked.

“Yes, he doesn’t deserve us using his name, so Noah and I have decided to call him Fuck-knuckle instead.”

“Okay, Fuck-knuckle it is,” Sammy nodded. “So, as I was saying, Bloodnok might have a lead on where Fuck-knuckle is currently staying. Kestrel found some, let’s say, concerning facts about what he’s been up to in his workplace, as well as digging up everything he can find on his family.” Sammy wiped a hand down his face, then pegged Allee with a solemn look. “Do you have any clue about the legalities and codes of conduct that someone working in the car sales industry is subject to?”

“Um, no, not really,” Allee replied, “I mean, I expect it’s along the lines of they can’t share financial or personal details about their customers and such, but that’s about all.”

“Well, let’s just say that, especially in regards to you, this dickhead has been abusing his connections in the industry. Kestrel managed to find copies of his emails, and what he’s found is enough for your ex to not only lose his job but be barred from any sales position too. The breaches he’s performed would ruin his entire life, as well as ruin his family’s reputation. Kestrel found out that his family are prominent back there, and their reputation is impeccable, yeah?”

“Yes,” Allee confirmed, “his parents are very straight-laced and don’t take kindly to actions that negatively affect said reputation.”

“This would shatter that completely. They’d never be able to hold their heads up again, not unless they disowned him.” Sammy stated.

“Honestly? That’s a distinct possibility,” Allee mused. “His mother is very old-fashioned and disapproves of the crap he pulls, but he hides it from them both. His father tends to follow the lead of his mother, I never really sat down and had a conversation with Mr Lawson without Mrs Lawson there as well.”

“The shit this guy’s pulled would be enough for them to do that. Besides the illegal activities and abuse of you, he’s also pulled some dodgy shit when it came to that Monaro.” Sammy grimaced in disgust. “There were initial complaints made about him, but because of his buddies in the other government agencies, they were ‘lost’, and Kestrel’s got proof of him intimidating people to get away with it.”

Allee shook her head in disgust. She’d never really taken much interest in Stuart’s work, because he never told her anything beyond surface subjects such as his sales performance, work trips, and other such things. Finding out more about his true nature only disgusted her further.

“So, what happens now?” she looked up at Sammy.

“I’m waiting on Bloodnok to get back to me, as he’s been following the dickhead’s geolocation trail. He’s managed to find two prepaid phones and has the numbers for them. He told me this morning that he should have a location for Fuck-knuckle by tomorrow afternoon. What we need to discuss now is what do we do with all of this information?”

Sammy spread the printout pages over the coffee table, screenshots of conversations, geolocation maps, and photographs spilling across the surface.

“Do you want to take all of this to the police? The fact that we can place him here when your house was ransacked could get them looking further, but this information wasn’t gained legally, and they may end up being more interested in investigating how we ‘found’ it instead.”

“No. I don’t want to deal with the police again. They’re not going to be interested.” Allee chewed on the cuticle of her thumb. “Y’know what? I want to scare the bejesus out of him. He’s done nothing but harass and terrorise me, and I want him to know what that feels like. I want him to be looking over his shoulder from now on, wondering when the axe is gonna fall. How about this…”

Bending over the piles of paper, Allee began to outline a plan.

Noah was nervous. Bloodnok had come through with a location for Stuart on Wednesday afternoon, and it was a hotel not far from where Allee had stayed when she first arrived in Brisbane. Along with Andre and Sammy, Noah was over at Darryl’s place, Charlie and Tania having left to go for a girl’s afternoon with Allee, so Stuart couldn’t come back and accuse her of having anything to do with what was about to happen next.

“Are we all ready?” Darryl clapped his hands together as his gaze crossed to each of the men.

“As ready as I’ll ever be,” Noah replied, straightening and stretching out his neck and shoulders.

“Let’s get on the road, then.”
