“He is going to be speechless when he sees you,” she beamed at me.

I matched her smile and with a final nod, and with a small nudge I encouraged her to walk out and down the make-shift aisle we did in the backyard of a winery. The summer sun was shining and it was the perfect weather for our little outdoor vow renewal.

The melody of the music swept in under the door, and I knew it was time for me to step into the spotlight and make my way to the man I fell in love with more than thirty years ago. I walked the aisle between the chairs with my head held high and my eyes focused on Aiden waiting at the end. I only saw him, because in that moment he was all that mattered.

Our hands locked as I stepped up next to him, I lost myself in the endless blue of his eyes.

I didn’t look around, didn’t pay attention to the camera, nor did I want to hear what the official was saying. All I wanted to do was stare at Aiden’s perfectly sculpted face and enjoy the forever flapping butterflies in my stomach.

After all those years, he was still the one.

“When I first saw you walk into the Starbucks, I thought to myself, she is the one,” Aiden started his speech making me chuckle. That couldn't be true. “Then, you opened your mouth and it turned out you were not even close to being impressed by who I was.” That was true. “And on top of all of that… you were my coach’s daughter.” Laughter passed through the crowd and I grinned. “Not the best odds to start with. But despite all those odds, the back and forth of our bantering, I took it slow and easy. I was not in a rush to win you over, because I knew… you will be my forever. Now, thirty years later, I’m glad I took my time and didn’t rush into anything. We gave each other the perfect amount of space and tough love and without you, I wouldn't be the man I am today. You made me a better player, you made me a father, and you make me the happiest and proudest husband. You have the purest heart and a loving soul. In every person you meet, you not only find, but brighten their inner light. With you I feel like half of an unstoppable whole. And our forever is just starting now.”

Tears pooled in the corner of my eyes and I had to blink them away to not ruin my make-up or stain Sarah’s creation.

Aiden squeezed my hand and I matched his squeeze before I took a deep breath.

“We both know how indecisive I am, but one thing I know is that without a doubt you are the person that I want to spend my forever with. You are my best friend, my anchor and my biggest cheerleader. You are fiercely loyal, trustworthy and selfless to a fault. You make me laugh, challenge me, support me and never let me forget how beautiful and amazing you think I am. You've helped me blossom into the woman that I am today, and have shown me a love that is pure, magical and everlasting. I love how passionate you are with everything you do. I love the way you light up when you play soccer, the way you laugh when I say something stupid and how your eyes glimmer whenever you look at me. You are the love of my life and I am forever grateful for you.”

I watched his eyes glimmer with emotions and my throat felt tight. The world around us fell apart and all I could do was stare at the beautiful man who took my breath away almost thirty-one years ago.

Aiden wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close to himself, his lips fell on mine. Our kisses were always passionate and rushed like we were starving for each other. But for the first time, in a long time, we took it slow. I opened up for him, allowing him to explore every inch of my mouth. It felt like one of those first magical kisses when everything is still new, electricity is buzzing around you and your skin is burning in anticipation from the first touch. Desire pooled in the base of my stomach. And after all those years, every kiss, no matter how big or small, felt the same as that very first one.

“You’re my forever,” Aiden muttered over my lips before pulling away.

Leaning against him with a smile, I didn’t take my eyes off of him. I didn’t need to look at the crowd gathered here, or at my children. People and friends changed. Kids grew up and went on with their lives. I only needed to look at him to feel complete.

Forever.
