After some discussion, we decide that Mia and I will sit in the living room, snuggled together in the corner of her sectional. Like we’ve taken a break from enjoying married life to talk to Mia’s fans—that’s who we’re addressing after all.

“Ready?” Evie asks from her perch on a stool across from us.

“Ready,” Mia responds with a smile, and I nod.

With a press of the button, Evie points to Mia, who will be the one delivering the bulk of the message tonight.

“Hey, guys.” She lifts her hand and waves awkwardly before she continues. “I’m sure by now most, if not all, of you have heard my exciting news. There’s definitely been a lot of people talking about it today.”

She rolls her eyes with a smile.

“This handsome hunk behind me…” She grips the arm I have wrapped around her shoulder. I don’t remember us talking about her adding the handsome hunk part, but it’s not like we’re following a script set in stone. “This is my husband, Garrett.”

“Hey there.” Lifting my hand not resting on Mia’s shoulder, I give a small wave too.

“Yes, that’s right. I’m married. We are. But I want to set the record straight. For those of you who say it seems soon, I want you to know that Garrett and I have known each other for twenty years. We’re best friends. Only it wasn’t until recently that we realized we had feelings that went beyond that. We love each other. And once we realized that, we didn’t want to wait.” She leans back, her lips brushing my jaw, and my cock twitches in my pants. I shift slightly to avoid her discovering the reaction she has over me.

“There are some nasty rumors floating around about me,” she continues with a frown.

“None of them are true,” I jump in. We hadn’t planned it, but why the hell not improv?

“Mia is an amazing person—inside and out.”

Goosebumps run the length of Mia’s neck. Did I come on too strong?

She clears her throat. “Thanks, baby.”

“Welcome,” I murmur and brush her hair with my lips.

“Well, that’s it from us. We wanted to take a few minutes and set the record straight. We’re super excited about celebrating with our friends and family and spending time with each other. I can’t imagine being happier than I am right now. Talk to you later!”

She smiles brightly at the camera, and we both wave again before Evie drops her phone.

“You really think people will believe that? That they’ll forget about the video and…?”

Her lips are inches from mine when she turns to ask, and I have a hard time not giving in and closing the distance between us.

“I have no doubt. I promise you, Ames, we’re going to find out who did it—”

“Fucker.” She snorts.

“I agree. I think it was him. He’s desperate because he realizes he did something stupid.”

“Yeah, that video is pretty bad.”

“It is, but that’s not what I’m talking about.”

She stares at me, the pulse point in her neck fluttering to life the longer the silence stretches between us.

“What are you talking about?” Her voice is breathless, her pupils dilated.

Fuck, the urge to kiss her is nearly overwhelming. Are her reactions genuinely meant for me? I wish they were.

“He let you go,” I whisper. “He couldn’t have done anything more stupid than that.”

Her eyes flutter shut while her body lifts toward mine as if it has a mind of its own. Centimeters, there are only centimeters between us. My willpower caves, and I lean down, ready to claim her lips with mine.

“Okay, you guys, it’s posted.” Evie’s voice breaks through our bubble.
