“I admire your passion, but—"

“Garrett, there’s a call from US Entertainment on line one,” Jeff, my new assistant, hired after Meric announced he would be moving, interrupts.

“Take a message,” I tell him.

Sensing the tension in the room, he nods once and leaves my office without another word.

“Garrett,” Meric says, “perhaps you should take the day off and figure out how to get rid of the media that seems to be interested in you again.”

“I just got here.”

He nods. “Only for today.”

Fuck.

Jeff pops his head back into my office. “Weekly Box Office on line three. They want to know how you feel about Mia acting opposite her ex in this new romance.”

Records scratch in my head.

What the hell?

Oh, fuck no.

Chapter Twelve

MIA

“Come again?” Blinking, I hold my glass partway to my lips, frozen by what Michaela just shared with me.

Her face pinches in a pained look before smoothing back out again.

“The woman in the video—Tucker’s video—it’s me,” she repeats, pushing a honey-colored strand of hair behind her ear.

“You?”

When we scheduled the lunch for today, I didn’t know what to expect. Definitely not for her to tell me that she was the co-star of Tucker’s sex tape.

“I—I didn’t know. That he was recording that—that—” She blows out a breath. “I didn’t know.”

I blink as I try to process what she’s telling me.

“Did…when were you with him?” A part of me needs to know. Was she one of his many infidelities?

“He said you two weren’t together. So did my label rep,” she responds. “He told me that the two of you had broken up and encouraged me to accept Tucker’s dinner invitation.”

“But?”

“You got back together the next week, according to the press,” she admits.

“When?”

“About six months ago.”

That confirms my guess. It was the last massive argument that we’d had before the breakup. Was it cheating if we were in the middle of an argument, and I’d told him I didn’t want to see him again? Did I care anymore?

A part of me is glad that Michaela had slept with him during a “break.” I liked her. I didn’t want to not like her just because she slept with my douche of an ex-boyfriend when he and I were together.

“I take it you accepted?”
