She was sucked through it before the sword cleaved its way out the other side, and she was in the freezing sea. She flailed in the water, trying to get to the surface. Magic imploded, then a bright light flashed through the water, and everything was rushing toward it. The monster was dragged toward the portal with water and blood that was pouring from it.

Ella’s lungs were tightening, and she started to panic as she was sucked through the opening. She was suddenly under a hot sky, two burning suns above her. She breathed in a mouthful of the sulphury air. Strong arms grabbed her, and she was hauled backward through the portal and into the freezing sea. She was moving fast through the water before she broke the surface.

“I got you. I got you,” Mananan said behind her. He hauled her, coughing and spluttering onto the sand.

Somehow, Ella had managed to keep a hold of the sword. They both collapsed on the beach, Mananan still holding on to her. He was staring at her in wide-eyed horror and love.

Ella turned her sandy face toward him and caught her breath. “Will… Will you be my mate, Mananan? I mean, you better after I just went through a monster’s eye for you.”

Mananan let out a surprised bark of laughter. “I want that more than anything in the world.”

Ella passed him back Fragarach. “Take this, will you? I don’t think I’m built to wield it.”

“You just proved you are,” Mananan said. He got to his feet and sheathed the sword on his back. He reached down and helped Ella up. She was shaking from cold and shock.

“M-My arm is numb,” she said, unable to lift it.

“It’ll be okay. I promise. The same thing happened to me when I first used the sword,” Mananan reassured her. She was shaking so hard, he lifted her up into his arms and began carrying her up the beach. Taranis found them seconds later, his face smeared in blood.

“We won the battle, but that fucking mage disappeared when the monster died,” he snarled, his eyes glowing with magic and fury. “Get her out of here, Mananan, before she freezes to death. Go to Kian’s. I’ll be there soon after I clean up this fucking mess.”

Ella buried her face into Mananan’s neck. He was safe. They were alive. They were together. Ella pressed her lips to his skin and let the exhaustion finally take her.

Sweat trickled down Ella’s neck, and she tightened her grip on the carved headboard. She looked down at Mananan’s face between her thighs, and she couldn’t hold in the cries that escaped her lips.

“Oh, gods, get inside me, Mananan, before I die,” she wept, unable to take it anymore.

Mananan slid out from underneath her and pulled her hips back. Her hands slid down the headboard, and she grabbed the bed.

“Is my little mate ready for me?” he purred, guiding his dick to her soaked pussy.

“Yes. Oh, fuck yes,” she babbled. He had been breaking her piece by piece for over an hour, and if she didn’t get him inside of her… Ella sobbed as his dick slid into her right to the hilt.

Mananan’s hand moved under her and lifted her up to meet his deep thrusts. Tears tracked down Ella’s cheeks as the pressure in her pussy grew and grew.

“Is that what you needed, baby?” he growled in her ear, making goose bumps streak down her spine.

“Manan…” she whimpered once before the pressure inside of her burst, and she screamed into a pillow. Mananan took that as a challenge and began to fuck her faster and deeper. When she was sure her body couldn’t take any more, he proved her wrong. Mananan pulled himself free, flipping her onto her back and thrusting back into her. His long hair curtained around their sweat dampened faces, and he kissed her.

“My beautiful mate,” he whispered, his voice still holding traces of wonder every time he said it.

They came at the same time, Ella’s legs gripping his hips tight and her hands tangled in his hair. He leaned down and kissed her slow and gentle. His heart was pounding against hers, and the mating bond was singing through them. It was only a few days old, and they had spent those few days in their chambers in Kian’s castle.

“I don’t feel like I’m in my own body,” Ella said dreamily. Mananan moved off her and let out a contented sigh.

“We should go into hiding for another month,” he said, running his hand over the curve of her hip.

“I don’t think we will be able to get away with that, but it’s a nice idea,” Ella laughed softly. She flung an arm and leg over him and rested her cheek on his chest. “We have a dinner tonight that we can’t get out of. It’s in our honor after all.”

“I know. I just don’t want to deal with them,” Mananan said and kissed the top of her head.

“My body could do with sustenance, and until we find that damn mage, none of us can really relax.”

In the times that they had ventured out of their bedroom, they had been dragged into meetings about how to find the mage. Taranis had sent for a magical tracking expert as well as his knights. He was extra grumpy that the Fomorian had slipped between his fingers again.

“Do you think Taran will be in a better mood?” Ella asked, resting her chin on his chest so she could look at him.
