“That’s not the dark mage we are looking for, Yelena. Get off Val,” Taranis replied.

Yelena moved the blade from his throat. “Oops. Sorry. Made you bleed a bit there.” She leaned down and licked Valentine’s throat. “All better! Sorry!” She teleported again, landing in front of Taranis. She wrapped her arms around him. “Master! I'm so glad to see you.”

Ella giggled at Valentine’s shocked and offended face. He sat up slowly, rubbing at his bleeding neck, bright red with embarrassment and fury.

“Easy, let me look,” Cosimo said, hurrying to Valentine’s side to check the cut on his throat.

Mananan appeared behind Ella and wrapped an arm around her waist. She couldn’t be certain, but she thought he was marking his territory somehow.

“Who are they?” Ella asked him.

“Dragons,” Mananan replied.

Kian joined Taranis. “Uncle, aren’t you going to introduce us to your friends?”

“Of course. This is Avallach, Vidar, Emyr, and Owain. The little one is Yelena. She is hypersensitive to magic and is going to help us find the Fomorian,” Taranis replied, pointing them out.

“Is he Fomorian? I thought you said you weren’t sure?” Yelena spoke up. Mananan’s grip on Ella tightened.

“What is she talking about, dragon?” Arawan asked from his place next to Imogen.

“I suppose I can’t keep it to myself any longer. When I fought the mage on the beach, I felt…something off. His power was disgusting, but it wasn’t all Fomorian.” Taranis let out a frustrated groan. “To cover his escape, he threw a certain spell at me.”

“You recognized it as fae?” Oberon asked.

Taranis shook his head. “No, I recognized it because it was one of mine.”

EPILOGUE

The mage stood in the middle of a busy park in the heart of Oslo. It was full of lovers and friends and people with small, loud children. He walked unmasked and unrobed amongst them, just like he always had.

The burn on his chest ached, the last wound from his duel to heal. It had been made by dragon fire, and it would take time to mend. He cursed himself again for casting that old spell at his opponent.

His old master wasn’t a fool. He would’ve known what the spell was, even if he thought the only other who could wield it was dead. Taranis was predictable and would summon his dragon knights from Mag Argatnél to hunt him.

The mage wasn’t afraid. He was counting on it. With their blood, he would have enough power to open all of the portals in Albion and Faerie at once to the Fomorian worlds. Terror and death would come through them like a tidal wave.

His old master was a foe like no other, but he had no idea that the trap the mage was setting would cut him to the core. Taranis would walk right into it because the mage knew who his mate was, and she was going to be the perfect bait.

The mage smiled and leaned back in his chair. After so many long centuries, he would finally get his revenge on his old master, who had left him to die. He couldn’t wait to watch them all burn.
