Chapter sixteen

Tyler

Wefuckedup.Notonly did we fail to protect our mate from nearly slicing her face off and almost dying, but we couldn’t keep our kids safe from being kidnapped.

I can hear the guys lecturing Kat as I let her bedroom door swing shut behind me. I have so much pent-up anger that I had to get out of there before I said or did something I would regret.

It seems like every time things are going good, something else happens to ruin our happiness.

I head to my warehouse, and as I get closer to the building, I tilt my head up, sniffing to see if there’ll be other supes inside, but the smells are faint. Looks like everyone has left for the evening. I walk to my desk, grateful that I’m the only one here. I’m not looking for an audience to see me break down.

I pace around my office for a good fifteen minutes to try and figure out a plan, but I’ve got nothing. I can’t stop thinking about my girl lying on the floor like a corpse.

Thinking back to the mall’s security footage I tapped into, it was obvious that the people who kidnapped Ava and Ezra were hunters. But not the hunters we’re used to. These hunters left the other wolves unharmed.

“Hey, Tyler.” Zay comes into the warehouse, and I turn around to face him. “Did we find out anything new?” I had Benji tell them they were hunters because they’ve been on edge about finding out who took Ava and Ezra.

“Nothing new yet,” I tell him, and his shoulders sag in defeat. “Try and get some sleep. You’ll be of better use if you’re rested.” He nods his head and steps out.

I finally take a seat, grab my phone from my front pocket, and dial Silas’s number. “Hello, Tyler.” I can smell his deep arrogance through the phone, and I grip my phone tighter.

“Silas, you better not be fucking with us, or I swear, I’ll fucking use our power and destroy you once and for all.”

“I’d love to see that happen,”my wolf growls.

“Me too, wolf, me too,”I respond.

“As humorous as that would be to watch youtry. . .” I hate this cocky bastard. “I have no idea what the hell you’re talking about.”

“I’m not here to play games, and I don’t have time for stupid politics. I need answers, and I need them now. My mate’s kids, who are now mine too, are gone.” I feel like shit, and I can’t find anything in my security to help me track them. “Hunters took them,” I say through clenched teeth. It’s really hard for me to accept defeat. I’ve never been one to accept it.

The job they did was clean—too clean. They were in and out. Ezra and Ava were both in different locations, but according to the mall cameras, they were taken at the same time. Ezra disappeared when he went into the arcade with Ryder and Cash. They both came out of the store looking for him until they got a call from Tiffany. She had gone into a store with Ava and came out alone as well. The hunters probably went through the back or the employee area. When I checked those cameras, they had been disabled for a while.

The phone goes silent, and I think he’s hung up on me, so I pull my phone away and see we’re still on a call.

“Silas?” This fucker better not hang up on me. I’m not in the mood. I’ll find him if I have to.

After a moment he finally asks, “When were they taken?”

“Just a few hours ago.” I grab my notebook and pen from my computer in case he has something useful to tell me.

“Has she transitioned?” I drop my pen.

“How did you kn—”

“Did you notice anything out of the ordinary with her?” he interrupts. What the fuck does he know?

“Silas, I ain’t tellin’ you shit. If you know something that can help us find her and Ezra, you better start talking now.” I know I’m threatening a member of the council, and it can have serious consequences, but when it comes to Silas, he operates through different standards. Although he’s a council member, sometimes I believe he only has his own interest in mind. I guess they all do, but Silas is different.

“I’ll check my resources,” he says and hangs up, leaving me in the dark.

I throw my phone on my desk. I found absolutely nothing and, with no leads, I need to get this pent-up energy out of me, or I’ll end up wreaking havoc in my own warehouse.

I keep spare gym clothes in one of my drawers. I open the cabinet, pull out my duffle, and get up to leave.

I’m grateful I don’t run into anyone on my way to the gym. I get into the building, and everyone gives me a friendly wave or greeting, but everyone’s in their own zone. I’m not worried about snapping if people come up to talk to me. I wouldn’t be a good alpha if I snapped at my people for asking questions.

I get to the lockers, unzip my duffle, and grab my clothes. I change quickly and head straight for the punching bag. We have sturdier bags than the ones humans use because of our strength. The sand inside a normal bag would explode with just one of our hits.
