Benji whispers in her ear, “Let him go, Kitty Kat. He’s only here to help you.” That seems to pull her out of her trance.
“Oh God, I’m so sorry.” She shakes her head in confusion and embarrassment.
“What happened?” Doctor Jones looks around the room confused. He scratches his head trying to put the pieces together.
I open my mouth to speak, but Ash beats me to it. “You know how vampires can control humans?”
“Yeah, of course.” He lifts his brow. He has no clue where we’re taking this conversation.
“Katarina did the same to you.” He takes a step back from my mate. He then looks at Kat again.
“H-How?” he finally asks.
“I should go.” She gets up to leave, and her cheeks turn bright red in embarrassment as tears form in her eyes.
“Kat, we need to make sure you’re fine,” Amara says finally looking in her eyes.
“She’s right,” Doctor Jones pipes up. “I’m not upset, but I would rather you not use your powers on me again.” He chuckles, but there’s a hint of nervousness there.
“Yes of course,” Kat replies, sitting back on the bed.
The way she constantly looks down, I know she’s feeling extremely guilty. The doc checks her out, and she complies with everything he asks.
“Where the tattoo used to be still looks pretty raw,” he says as he shines his light way too close for my liking. Throughout the whole checkup, I have had the urge to push him back a step or two to provide them with some distance. “This is going to take a while to heal up. It was infused with magic and then you used your weapon that’s known to be deadly. I’m not sure if it’ll heal completely or if it’ll leave a scar.” Her body slumps, she was probably expecting the worst and that’s the reason she was trying to avoid the checkup.
“I have to go examine other patients at the hospital. Call me immediately if anything occurs,” he says as he starts putting his equipment away in a suitcase.
She nods her head, “Thanks Doc.”
Amara pushes herself from the wall with her leg that was propped up as Doc leaves us to seek other patients at the hospital.
She speaks to Kat gently. Probably afraid my mate might use her powers on her.
She uses her own magic to assess Kat’s. Her assessment takes longer, so we sit around and wait patiently.
“Everything looks good on my end,” Amara says, “but keep an eye on her.” She looks at each of us. “With her heightened emotions, her magic might activate even when she doesn’t realize it.” She means like what happened to the doc. “Take this, Kat.”
Kat takes the vial from her hands. “What is this?” She brings it up, inspecting it. The glass is clear and the contents are blue.
“It’s to help you relax. Trust me, you need it.” She tips the vial and pours the contents down her throat.
Once she’s done, she gives it back to Amara. “Tasty.” She licks her lips making sure she tastes every drop.
“How exactly will it make merelax?” Kat asks.
“It’s a little something to help you sleep.” Kat’s eyes widen.
“Amara, I’ve already sle . . .” She doesn’t finish before she slumps backward, but Benji is there to catch her.
I care about my mate’s kids, and I want to protect them from whoever took them away. If it’s Theo, I hope we finally get the chance to kill that man once and for all. But after what she experienced today, she needs rest.
The next day, I pace around my room. Ava and Ezra have been gone for a day now, and we haven’t gotten anywhere. My guys tell me that no one has been in or out of Theo’s office building.
I told them to go inside early this morning. It turns out, everything is still there. I don’t know whether to be relieved or upset. I guess this means we’ll just have to keep waiting for him to show up eventually.
I’m at Tyler’s warehouse. My brothers and I stand off to the side with Tyler and an annoyed but nervous Kat. She’s a little angry since Amara gave her the potion. She does look refreshed though. She needed her rest.
There are other supes in here doing God knows what on their computers. I don’t even offer to help because the last time I did, I completely destroyed one of my brother’s computers.
