They’re both supernaturals, vampires. I’m curious to see if it will work on them. I hand Ash the suitcase and grab Kat, pushing her against the glass. I hold onto both of her hands and pin them on top of her head before I hover over her, gently nipping at her bottom lip.

The other security guard nudges us. “Do your thing, baby.” I let go of her arms, and she faces our first victim.

Her eyes get brighter before she opens her mouth and says, “Take a two-hour break.” His eyes glaze over and he walks away.

“Oh shit, it worked,” I shout, Ash hands me back the case. “It works on vampires, too.” I’m not going to lie, I had my doubts. Vampires are usually the ones able to compel humans to do whatever they want.

“Wh-what did you just do?” The other vamp with the hat stutters.

“I guess you aren’t the only one that can make others do what you want.” Kat smirks. The guy tries to run away, but Az holds onto his neck, steadying him before he gets a chance to leave.

“Your shift is over. Go home.” He stares off into space before he starts walking away.

Kat jumps up and down with glee. “I did it. See, I told you guys I’m useful.” She puts her hand on her hip.

“Aren’t there cameras around here?” Kat asks, looking around the building.

“I disabled them all before we came here,” Tyler responds as he tries to pull the door open. “It’s locked, Az.”

“On it,” he says as he pulls out his tool kit from his chest pocket.

He gets on his knees, inserting the metal tools into the lock. It only takes him a minute to unlock it.

He pulls it open and we walk in. There’s someone sitting at the front desk with headphones on, but she hasn’t even noticed we’re here.

Kat goes straight to her. She looks up and is startled by our presence. She looks at the door as worry edges the corner of her eyes.

“Who let you in?” she asks as she picks up the phone. Probably to call more security. Kat puts her hand on top of hers and the receptionist immediately pulls away.

“You’re very exhausted, and you’re going to take a five-hour nap.” The girl nods her head as her eyelids fall heavy. She crosses her arms over the desk and lays her head on top. In less than a minute, she’s knocked out and snoring.

“We need reinforcements,” Ash says.

Tyler calls the rest of the guys. In two minutes, all fifteen guys are here.

“There are many more sections to this building that we’re aware of. We need you guys to do a thorough sweep. We’re going to have you check floors fifteen and up, and we’ll check fourteen and below.”

“Got it, alpha,” they reply in unison. I grab the girl’s badge and head to the elevators with the rest of them.

We push the top button and walk in. Tyler selects the fourteenth floor. “No one but your victims know we’re here, Kat. The footage they’re seeing is from a couple days ago. They think it’s live.”

Kat’s eyes widen at that remark, but she doesn’t get to say anything before the doors open back up.

“We’ll stay together while the rest of your lovers check the floor.”

“Shouldn’t we be searching too?” Her eyes wander to their retreating backs. I put the suitcase down.

“We’re keeping watch, making sure no one surprises us.” I lean against the wall. To an outsider, I look relaxed, but on the inside, I’m on edge.

“Oh well, that makes sense.” She stands on the other side of the elevator.

I figure we can do a little chit chatting to calm her nerves and mine too.

“So—” Her eyes go straight to mine, and I’ve gotten her full attention. “Remember that time I said there was one female to four males.”

“Mhmm,” she says as she watches the area to make sure nothing out of the ordinary will surprise us.

“Well I lied.” She whips her head back toward me. “I had two moms and one dad.” She scrunches her brows in confusion.
