“Benji, roam the property. I have a strange feeling that there might be someone who isn’t supposed to be here. Ask Amara to help you track. If you find anyone, don’t kill them. I have questions.”

“On it,” he says, and he too gets up from the chair and walks out.

Something about Theo isn’t adding up. If my theory is correct, then he’s a shifter just like us and both kids are going to end up being shifters as well.

I slump in my chair and twirl the ring in my hand. I took it from Katarina’s belongings. Can you blame me? I want her to have no part of her ex anymore. Just the thought of him being with Katarina causes jealousy to bubble in the pit of my stomach.

When I hold it up into the light, the ring pulses, and I sit straighter. Something isn’t adding up. It’s faint, and you can’t feel the power, but the vibration of this ring means it’s something else—something more.

There was a reason Krissy let her have the ring back, and it wasn’t because she didn’t want it. She was checking something.

It held Katarina captive.

Theo is definitely not human, that’s for sure. But what exact species is he, and why wasn’t I able to feel something when he was here? How does he hide it so well? And probably the most important question of all, why doesn’t Katarina know?

Chapter five

Tyler

I knew there was something off about Theo. It was a gut feeling, and I told Ash, but no, he insisted I was wasting my time and we needed to find Krissy. All of my resources had to be spent on her.

Well, now that has come back to bite us in the ass.“Thanks, Ash,”my wolf grumbles.

“We should take him out back and beat the shit out of him again.”I chuckle and so does my wolf. We don’t take life too seriously like we used to—that’s Ash’s job. Although, I’m not opposed to beating his ass again like I did the week before Kat showed up.

If I wasn’t so focused on finding Krissy and using the rest of my time to find information on Kat, I would’ve found something on Theo sooner. I just hope that we aren’t too late or that he’s not a danger to us. But calling out of the blue tells me that he might be a problem soon.

I arrive at my warehouse where I store all of my hacking equipment. It’s also the place I use to hide away from people when I just need some time to myself. When I lock it, no one can get in unless I let them.

My place is huge, and I don’t have to worry about so many people being crammed here. There’s lots of room and space for everyone.

My warehouse also has a gaming room. I have a ping pong table, five different arcade games, and I have video games set up on another side of the room. Comfortable couches and lounge chairs line the walls for when I invite people. My employees work at the five long tables near the front door.

I stop by the glass cabinet where I keep the first computer the guys bought me. It started my love for computers, and I keep it here as a reminder of where it all began. Gazing at it brings back so many memories. It’s the first time I felt like I had found something other than physical training and competitions to make me feel complete. The guys gifted it to me years ago, and my life has changed for the better ever since.

I remember Benji would fight me to play Tetris, then I remember the time he tried to store his bombs in here. We got into a huge argument. He lost of course, so he keeps his shit elsewhere. I didn’t want to come here one day to unwind and find nothing but a giant crater in the ground. I’ve spent a lot of time and money getting this place exactly how I want it, so I’ll be damned if he blows it up by accident.

Besides being with Kat, this is as close to heaven as I’ll ever be.

Our beta, Matt, stands next to my desk.

“We have six other people coming in,” he says, glancing down at his phone. I’m actually surprised they’re willing to come in on their day off.

Once the supernaturals start trickling in, I move myself to my desk at the front of the room. Some come in with their own equipment and sit at the open tables, others sit in front of the computers I already have set up.

I arrange the projector on the wall and try to prepare myself before I give out the information my people are waiting for.

“Tyler.” Carter, another beta, approaches me. The betas know we like to be called by our name and not our title. “They’re waiting for your instructions.” He dims the lights, and I turn on the projector with a sigh.

“So we’re looking for any information on Theo.” I bring up a picture of his face. Ash took it when he went to their house to pick up the kids. The man has no photos of himself on his website. It’s like he’s a ghost.

“This is all we have on him.” I show them the next slide with the little bit of information I gathered the day before we went on the lookout for Kat. “We’ve got to check both human and supernatural databases. If you find anything at all, no matter how small, come find me and let me know.”

“Nothing will get past us,” Matt says with determination.

“You got that right.” I point to him with my pencil. Carter turns the light back on. “Okay everyone, let’s get to it.”
