I leaned against a pillar in the shade, enjoying the cool stone on my back. “You make it sound easy.”

Theron chuckled softly, coming to stand beside me. His thumb traced my cheekbone as he cupped my face. “I wish it were. But we knew this wouldn’t be simple from the start.” He paused, his gaze searing my eyes. “There’s something else we need to consider.”

My brow furrowed. “What?”

“Your Helekian heritage. It puts a target on your back. Nyana will want to extinguish any hint of a legitimate claim to the throne, especially one that comes with... abilities.”

I sighed, and he pulled me into a gentle embrace.

“We’ll have to be cautious,” he murmured into my hair. “No more white leathers. I won’t let anything happen to you.”

His words sent a shiver down my spine. The thought of being a target—of having to constantly look over my shoulder in our encampment—was unsettling. The rebels had eventually accepted my heritage, but I had to worry about more than one front for an attack.

“I trust you,” I said, looking up at him. It wasn’t what I wanted to say to him. I wanted to tell him…everything. How I never doubted that he’d keep me safe, despite everything changing. That I’d never felt this way before and that it scared the hell out of me. That I loved him…

He smiled and pressed his forehead to mine. “I know. I trust you too.”

“No, that’s not what I’m trying to say.” He looked at me in confusion as I fumbled for the right words. “I mean, you and I. You’re it for me.” Taking a deep breath, I mustered the courage to tell him what I really wanted to say. “I don’t want anyone else. Ever.”

“Good. Because if I had to murder Xadrian it would make my alliance with Caelia a lot more difficult.” He chuckled, his expression growing concerned when I didn’t respond. “Sihaya? Are you alright?”

“I love you,” I blurted out, my voice a little shaky. Saying those words to someone other than family made my stomach flip. “I have for a while, but I was too afraid to tell you.”

His expression softened as he smiled down at me, a slow smile that lit up his entire face. “I love you too,” he said, tracing my jawline with his thumb. His voice was a whisper, almost as if he were afraid to break the spell of the moment. Heat spread through my body like wildfire. “You’re my heart. My everything.”

His lips descended onto mine and I smiled, my pulse thumping harder now because of a different reason. He pulled me deeper into the shade and through a door, kicking it shut behind us. I glanced around, recognizing an abandoned storefront, all of its windows boarded up and walls crumbling with age. He started stripping my armor from me, his lips never leaving my throat as his clever fingers moved over my body.

“We’re going to get caught,” I protested, lifting my chin to give him more access as he dropped my leather chest plate onto the floor.

He chuckled and whispered back, “Then you’ll have to keep quiet. Because I can’t wait.” His hands were demanding on my body as he explored every inch of me. His kisses trailed down my neck, and I let out a gasp, my stomach fluttering wildly at his touch. Everything about this moment was so right—this was exactly where I was meant to be—and I knew that no matter what happened next, I was ready for it because Theron was by my side.

He shifted and kissed down my stomach, his hands hooked around one of my legs, placing it over his shoulder as he knelt before me. His clothing was still in place, yet I was completely exposed. I shivered, my breasts tightening as I realized how vulnerable I was. His tongue moved against me, teasing my most intimate parts while his fingers ghosted up and down my sides, rolling my nipples and stroking my thighs. His mouth explored every part of me and I gasped in pleasure as sensations flooded through my body. He took his time with me, each stroke of his tongue more powerful than the last. Every move was measured—deliberate—as if he wanted to savor every second of this moment. I gasped for air and moaned, my cries of pleasure echoing louder and louder within the chamber.

He pulled away, looking up at me with eyes gone completely black. “Stay quiet,Sihaya,“ he warned. “Otherwise I’ll have to stop. You don’t want that, do you?”

I rolled my hips, trying to coax him back to my core. “N-no.”

“Good girl.”

He stood up and unbuckled his breeches before effortlessly lifting me from the ground and pressing his lips against mine.

“Say it again,” he growled against my mouth.

“I love you, Theron.” My voice broke on his name as he thrust into me in one powerful stroke and I had to fight not to shout.

His metal breastplate was cold against my sweaty skin and I clung to his armor as he powered into me, pleasure flashing through me with every stroke of his hips. His hands were everywhere—cupping my breasts, squeezing my backside, rubbing circles on my clit—and I was lost, adrift in the overwhelming sensations. I wrapped my arms around his neck, clinging to him and burying my face in his shoulder to muffle the moans escaping me. He pulled power through his armor, his strokes becoming even stronger and faster as he thrust up into me, no longer touching the wall.

“Gods, Theron,” I sobbed into his neck, my walls fluttering around him. His thrusts grew more frantic as he inched closer to his release and I threw my head back in ecstasy, every inch of him crashing into me like a tsunami against the shore as I came. I bit his shoulder as my vision blanked, holding tight as I screamed against his skin.

He let out a guttural sound as he reached his peak, and it sent shockwaves through my body, pushing me over the edge again as his cock jerked deep inside of me. I panted as I let go of his skin, embarrassed by the reddened crescents I’d left.

“Are you alright?”

He hummed in his throat. “I’m better than alright.” He pressed feather-light kisses across my collarbone before murmuring into my ear. “Because you’re mine.”
