It is slowly pushed open, and I see her dad helping her as she slips in with the blade in hand.

My arm is still reaching out in front of her now. Wiggling my fingers in her face, she gets the hint and places the silver blade with a black leather handle into my hand. We agreed she would stay for this. To support Fallon.

This ghost has a heart, after all. Does that scare you? It should. It scares the shit out of me, if I think about it for too long.

Harper steps back behind us, out of the way. Now we need the goblet.

“Mark! The goblet.” Fallon's eyes widened in shock.

That’s right, little girl, daddy’s home.

FALLON

Trembling hands cover my mouth in shock. Tears well in my eyes.

My dad is here, standing in front of me. He looks like he did before he died. The same short dark hair, stubble lining his jaw, bushy eyebrows and that smirk that I know now runs in the family. He is wearing his classic dad blue jeans, white trainers and black polo shirt. In his hand, he is holding the goblet, the exact one that Merrick stole out of Joanie's room.

“Daddy,” I whimper. He takes a step forward. “Hi, baby girl.”

I try to move forward, but Merrick squeezes my throat tighter. “Focus.” He snarks in my ear.

Slowly nodding at his statement, he continues, “Family reunion later. You need to focus.”

“Ok. Yeah.” Agreeing with him, but tears still stream down my face from the shock. I’ve missed my dad so much.

“The more you cry, the harder I get.” Merrick whispers behind me while rubbing his erection into my backside.

“He is right, baby girl. This is your time. You need to focus. I’ll be here by your side the entire time.” Dad reassures me as he walks to stand next to me, facing Joanie.

Lowering my hands from my face, Merrick brings the blade up to my chest. Using the sharp tip, he brushes it lightly across my collarbone. It doesn’t break skin, but one accidental move from me and it could.

“All the ingrates are here now. While I’m being held down by cowards. Fucking degenerates of the afterlife. None of you are worthy. You will fail. You will ruin this family and the name I have built.”

“Shut up. I’ve had enough of you. You open your damn mouth and bullshit spews out of it. You have been nasty since I got here, but apparently, that’s just the way you are. If anyone isn’t worthy, it’s you. You are not worthy of this family. Of this privileged life that was gifted to you. You had your chance to succeed, to be a good person, but it’s not in you. You were born nasty and you will die nasty.” Not wanting to stoop even further to her level, I bite my tongue. Then I grab Merrick’s hand, which is still caressing my bare skin.

“Ah, my stupid little girl might not be stupid any longer,” he says to me skeptically.

He places the blade into my hand and lets go of my throat.

There is no going back now.

Chapter25

Fallon

Darla and I make eye contact.

It’s time.

“Boys, please join me and form a circle around Joanie. Mark, bring the goblet. Harper. You can stay. You are the next legacy to have this ceremony… but with a little less death. It’s good for you to see the process.”

“Look at Darla over here with the jokes,” Merrick sounds impressed. He never sounds impressed.

“I’m more than just an elder spirit.” She bites back with a wink.

My dad moves to stand at Joanie’s head and Merrick, while rubbing his hands together, stands next to her torso in front of me.

All eyes are on me. My heart is racing.
