My body is frozen.

My eyes won’t open, and my lips won’t move. After what feels like days, but could be hours, I can hear hushed words breaking through the silence.

My blanket smells like Merrick. I miss him. He rushed me back home so quickly. He’s scared. I can feel it. When I hear him speak, he masks it.

I’m scared too. Why can’t I wake up?

“Bro, Darla said not to touch anything, don’t change anything. We can’t risk shit.”

My thoughts are interrupted by Merrick yelling at my dad. They want to clean my hands and face. Merrick is worried it could mess up whatever is happening.

As completely fucking insane as he is, he cares about me. He just shows it in strange ways.

“That’s my kid laying there. Lifeless. I just got her fucking back. I can’t lose her. I can’t.”

My dad sounds defeated. I’m not gone, dad. You won’t lose me.

Ever.

“You’re lucky I have been told to keep my hands off you, my desperate little slut. You have no idea how badly I want to fuck those perky tits of yours right now. We are keeping this corset.”

Feeling his finger caress my chest, he gets closer and whispers, “Your dad caught me jerking off to you earlier. I didn’t close the door, so it didn’t take much to catch me. So, surprise, he knows about us. Don’t be mad. You’re just so fucking sexy laying here immobilized like this.”

“Darla. Can you please fucking explain to me why she’s cold to touch but her heart is still beating? I can see it. I can hear it. I want some fucking answers.”

Those two love each other. It’s why they talk to each other with such… passion.

“Her heart beats. It’s slower. She will still be Fallon, but she has changed, Merrick. You need to let her rest. She has been through a lot. We didn’t prepare her for this. She will wake up when she’s ready.”

What. The. Fuck. What has changed?

“Baby girl, I’m sorry I left you too soon. I never wanted to. I thought I got out. That the curse was only a rumor or scare tactic. I was wrong. I should have told you about this place. I should have told you so much. Please don’t be mad at me. I’m so sorry.”

Daddy, I could never be mad at you.

A shiver crawls up my body. My eyes slowly open, daylight is shining through my window.

Looking down, there’s a blanket that isn’t my own covering me.

My body feels stiff from laying here for so long. Turning my head to the side, my neck cracks. I haven’t moved in days. The rest of my body feels stiff.

I see familiar boots at the edge of the bed. My eyes move up his jean-clad legs, his folded hands are folded on top of his stomach, he’s twiddling his thumbs. Continuing up his body, he turns his head to face me. A smirk is on his lips, and his dark eyes take me in.

“She lives.”
