“Get a couple of bowls and we’ll get to work.”

This was quickly turning into the best rained-out day ever.

Chapter 13

Reyna

Brycewascleaningupthe bowls and pan from our cookie-baking experiment. There was something, well, endearing about how Bryce wanted me to show him how to bake. It wasn’t the movie version, with flour everywhere and me playfully smearing cookie dough on his nose, but it was still a lot of fun.

We took a whole bunch of pictures together that we would post on social media as proof of our getaway. It was the only reminder in the afternoon that this was all for show.

While the cookies cooled, Bryce sent me in the direction of the living room to find a game we could play. The rain was still going strong, and a thunderstorm had made the lights flicker. But being stuck inside with Bryce was surprisingly cozy.

I rummaged through the cabinet where Bryce kept a well-stocked games cupboard. After glancing at a few boxes, I found the perfect game.

“You play chess?” I asked Bryce as I carried the heavy board into the kitchen.

“I’ll crush you in a heartbeat.”

“Oh, modest, huh? Typical Bryce.” I laughed at his wry expression as he turned toward me. There was something about Bryce standing in front of a running sink with a towel slung over his shoulder. He wasn’t Billionaire Bryce. He was just Everyday Bryce. A knot tightened in my stomach that reminded me how badly I could end up hurt in all of this.

Bryce turned off the tap and fully faced me as he dried his hands on the towel on his shoulder.

“I’m just confident about my skills.” He looked at me for a moment, brain wheels clearly spinning. “Let’s make it interesting. How about strip chess?”

I burst out laughing. It felt like a very typical Bryce suggestion.

“Deal,” I said, extending my hand to shake. Bryce took it and pulled me into him and sealed the deal with a long, hot kiss that made me wish we could just skip right to the stripping part.

We took the board back to the living room and set it up on the coffee table, each taking a spot on the floor on either side.

“First move is all yours, Reyna.” Bryce’s eyes had darkened and his voice had lowered. His eyes dared me on. Oh boy, this was gonna be fun.

I thought about my first move carefully before taking action. Bryce chuckled before moving one of his own pieces. A few turns later, I lost my first piece.

“No,” I cried out in fake indignation.

“Off with it,” Bryce ordered, and the sound went straight to the spot between my legs.

I stood up slowly and looked down at my body, pretending like I was deciding what I’d lose first. Then, just as slowly, I raised my arm to my hair, where it was tied up, and took out the scrunchy, letting it fall to the floor as my hair went loose.

Bryce smirked with disapproval.

“Clever,” he said in that throaty, raspy sound that let me know he’d been stripping off more than a scrunchy in his mind.

It wasn’t long before another one of my pieces was moved to the table beside the board.

Quietly, I removed my socks, and Bryce laughed. He wasn't wearing socks, so at least I had that advantage over him.

“You can play this game all you want, Reyna. But mark my words, you will end up naked.”

I was hoping I would.

Finally, Bryce lost one of his pieces and I clapped in excitement as he cried out in disappointment.

“Let’s see it, sir.”

He took off his shirt, which gave me quite the mouth-watering view. A mischievous smile danced on his face.
