He was right, of course, but the situation was a bit more nuanced.

“Raven is primarily a marketing company with some public relations and crisis communications on the side as necessary.” I arched an eyebrow at him, letting him know this was one of the times – fake engagement, boss’ rebranding – where good PR was necessary. “I want to be exclusively PR and crisis comms. You could even subcontract to me when necessary. By helping set me up, you're actually widening your reach.”

He nodded slowly, still absentmindedly stroking his chin with one finger. It should have made him look like a cheap movie villain, but instead, it made him look like he wasn’t going to let me get an inch further than he wanted me to get.

“Okay, we have a deal, then.”

I quietly let out a slow breath at Bryce’s agreement.

“Great. We need to get it in writing, and then I’ll agree.” He looked at me, amazed.

“You cover all your bases, don't you?” Again with that low rumble of a chuckle that shot straight to the deepest part of my core.

“I have to be.” I shrugged. I might have wanted to push him onto this table, rip all his clothes off, and jump on top of him, but I wasn’t going to be stupid enough to trust him. Butterflies aside, I didn’t know this man.

Bryce laughed and extended his hand toward me.

“Deal. I’ll have my lawyers draft up a contract for us to sign later today.”

There was no way I could have missed the wildfire that set off in me when our hands touched. It was more than just his looks and money. This handshake sealed a deal that could potentially change the course of my entire life.

“I look forward to reviewing the contract. Of course, I’ll need my own attorney to read through it before I sign. You might start thinking about backup options. Just in case I don’t like the offer or the contract.”

Bryce’s hand squeezed mine ever so slightly.

“Hmm. It would be a shame, though, if it wasn’t you. I think we have some chemistry here, Reyna. Don’t you agree?”

That smirk made my vision go cloudy. I was only focused on his face. Was heflirtingwith me?

“Well, I guess just make sure that I’m gonna like your offer.” I took my hand away from his and started to get up from the table.

“Oh, there’s a lot I can offer you, Reyna.” It wasn’t my imagination – his eyes were glued to my lips. I seized the opportunity and brought my lower lip lightly between my teeth, gratitude surging through me when Bryce swallowed hard.

His eyes lowered to my cleavage and my mind raced with images of all the wicked things he could do to me right on this conference room table.

“We’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we?”

I slowly stood up, making sure Bryce could see my dress had ridden up my thighs before I smoothed it back down. His eyes didn’t leave my body as I bent to pick up my bag from the floor.

I wasn’t so intimidated by him, after all. He seemed impressed by me, and not just impressed by my body. By the way he was looking at me, I knew I could have him if I wanted. And I wanted to have him. Just not now. Eventually.

Bryce nodded at me slowly as I turned to walk out the door. In the glass panel, I saw his eyes fixed firmly on my ass and it set off a rush of heat through my body. I felt alive and empowered, knowing that he wanted me, too.

I added an extra sway to my hips as I walked out the door, and his gaze stayed with me for as long as I could see his reflection. I had the upper hand here with Bryce. If he wanted me to be a part of this game, he was going to have to play bymyrules. I just needed to decide what my rules were. The company, yes. But what else did I want from him?

Thoughts of him pushing my arms into a soft mattress as he loomed above me made my heart skip double-time as I reached my office.

The daydream bubble popped when Ella spun around from her desk, expecting me to say something about the meeting.

Truthfully, I had no idea where to even begin.

“Is it true?” Her eyes were wide, and she seemed a little nervous.

“Is what true?” I hedged.

“The rumor is that you’reengagedto Bryce?”

My face immediately flushed, although I shouldn’t have been surprised that word was already spreading. Everyone in this building was paid to share information.
