He scooped up a bowl of grapes and sauntered over. “Grape? They’re delicious.” His voice was a playful tease, suggesting he was either about to tell me of some scandalous gossip he’d heard during his nightly escapades, or he wanted me on my back between his legs. It could go either way. Perhaps both ways. Sparks of lust skittered low, catching my breath. But we needed to talk first.

I plucked a grape free from the rest. “Listen, I have some concerns about Draven.”

“Oh? He said the same about you.”

“He did?”

“I know, fancy that, the warlord casting aspersions on our sweet and innocent Prince of Hearts.”

“What’s he said?”

“Only that he thinks you received a letter.”

I looked away, then back again, hoping Lark hadn’t noticed. He was picking out the best grapes and popping them between his lips. “I suspect he’s had a letter, and Razak wants you in exchange for his son. It’s an obvious play.”

Lark paused to consider it. “Rather too obvious, don’t you think?” He grinned, tossed a grape into the air, and caught it in his mouth.

“This is serious. He’s done it before.” I stole his bowl and squared up to him. “Why aren’t you more concerned?”

“I know Draven.” Lark reached around behind me, trying to retrieve his grapes.

I switched the bowl to my other hand, and we danced in a circle. “Youknewhim before too.”

“He’s not the brightest, but he’s also not stupid. He won’t betray us again.”

Lark reached the other way, and I switched the bowl again, then raised it above my head. “For his boy, he would.”

Lark stepped back, cocked a hip, and arched an eyebrow. “You’re playing a dangerous game, Arin. Give me the grapes.”

I waggled them in the air. “Take my concerns seriously and you can have them back.”

He glared, then swept in, all naked and hot, and laid both hands on my chest. “I do take you seriously, and I agree, he’s vulnerable to Razak, but right now, in this moment, I have a great many things on my mind, and none of them feature Draven.”

“Oh?” I blinked. His touch sizzled my skin, igniting little darts of lust. Lark’s sultry gaze spoke of all the things he wanted to do. “What do they feature?”

“Mostly you, some grapes, that bath, and the bed, perhaps the wall, or the dresser there, or even the balcony, now the sun has set. I haven’t decided. But rest assured, Draven can wait. And in a few moments, I’m going to take those grapes from you and make you beg me to feed them back to you. One. By. One.”

I grinned and I lowered the bowl, if only to rest my arm. Lark looked down at the fruit, then at me, eyebrow arched.

“I’m not going to beg you to feed me.” I gave him the bowl. “That’s ridiculous.”

He plucked a grape free, placed it between his teeth, and bit down inside a grin, and by the gods and all the powers, that single gesture had my cock responding like a puppet on his string.

“Get in the bath,” he ordered.

I didn’t move. Wanted to, but also… didn’t. There would be a reward for obeying him, there always was, but a part of me resisted. Pride, perhaps. Soon, we both knew I’d do anything he asked. And he’d do the same for me. I almost moaned in anticipation.

“I’ll make it worth your while.” He fluttered dark lashes and set the bowl down on a sideboard.

When he turned again, he let his gown fall open, revealing his slim physique and hardening cock. I might have begged him to feed me the grapes right then, might also have realized he’d distracted me from whatever I’d been concerned with moments ago. He’d emptied my head of everything except him, and how droplets gleamed off his thighs and the dark patch of hair at his cock, how his chest had me imagining all the ways I could trace those muscles with my tongue. I imagined how I might lower myself over him, slick and ready, and how he’d stretch and fill me.

“Strip, Arin.” He fluttered a hand. “There’s my good prince.”

I frowned and folded my arms.

“Oh, you want to play stubborn?” He tied his gown closed and folded his arms like mine, then jerked his chin. “Off.”

The message was clear. I got nothing if I didn’t play by his rules. Ilovedthis, and he knew it. Muttering a few obscenities, I tugged at my shirt, unlacing the ties, and yanked it off, over my head.
