“Seems strange all these properties surround it.”

“Yeah, it does seem strange.”

“Who owns it?”

Octavius opened a new window. “I can check who it’s registered to. Give me a second…” He opened the city records, logged in, and searched for the address. Land ownership was public record, if you knew where to look. It was how Felix Quaid had tracked down all of Vesna’s properties in the past.

A company name showed as the building’s owner. Octavius read it, then read it again. “This doesn’t make any sense.”

“What? Who owns it?”

“Atlas Enterprises. We’ve owned it since before these records became digitized. It’s not unusual, I guess. The Brotherhood owns a lot of property all over the world, safehouses, storage centers, weapons caches.”

“But it’s damn strange they own the largest warehouse in an area crawling with nyks, that happens to be surrounded by Nyxian property. Right?”

And Octavius hadn’t known about it. None of them had. It hadn’t appeared on their official properties list. He’d only found it now because he’d searched the public records, not their own internal documents. “Someone deleted the paper trail. Raiden, maybe. He could easily have hidden the evidence.”

“Whatever is there, we’ve got time before sundown to take a look,” Saint said, grabbing a jacket from Jayden’s leftover pile of clothes. “Bring Zaine. I trust the Viking.”

“Shouldn’t we all go?”

“And walk into another trap? No, we get a look at what we’re dealing with first.”

Octavius tossed Jayden his phone. “Just in case you need to reach us.”

“Okay.” He shrugged. “I’ll just stay here and, I don’t know, bake more cookies, I guess.”

A flush of protective warmth radiated through Octavius’s chest. He bent and kissed Jayden on the mouth. Jayden leaned into the kiss, hungry for more.

“You had better come back,” Jayden warned when the kiss ended, and Octavius lingered, lost in his soft eyes. “You owe me a threesome.”

Octavius ruffled Jayden’s hair, loving its bounce and the way Jayden screwed up his face. “Do notleave this apartment. You’ll be safe here until we get back.”

Jayden flopped back in the couch and arched a sultry eyebrow. “I’ll be waiting, boys.”

“He’s got us both wrapped around his little finger,” Saint said, once they were both outside in the hallway.

“He has.” Octavius chuckled as he entered the Brotherhood’s apartment.

“The world must be ending if Octavius can laugh,” Kazimir drawled.

Only Kazi, Felix, and Aiko were in the room. “Where’s Zaine?” Octavius asked.

“He went to find Eric,” Kazi replied. “He wasn’t answering his phone, so Z was losing his mind.” They all shared concerned glances, even Aiko, who rarely showed any kind of emotion. For a Brotherhood who didn’t care, they sure seemed to.

“When did he leave?” Saint asked.

“Not long ago.”

“We’ll catch up to him,” Saint said, heading back outside.

“We have an address near the nyk ambush earlier.” Octavius beckoned for Kazi to hand over his phone, then opened the maps app and dropped a pin on the warehouse location. “We’re going to take a look. Wait here. It’s likely to be heavily guarded and we need intel before we attempt to raid it. Where’s Storm? He should know about this.”

Aiko frowned and hopped down off the table. “We thought he was with you.”

“He was, but he left…” He’d show up. Storm was the most reliable of all of them. “All right, we good? We’ll be back at sundown.”

“You’d better be,“ Kazimir grumbled. Aiko and Felix agreed, and Octavius left them checking the address on Kazi’s phone and met Saint in the empty hallway. “Let’s find Zaine and Eric and get down there.”
