“Carlo, this is a disaster. What are we going to do?”

“Honestly, dolcezza, I’m not sure yet. But I’ll figure it out, I promise.”

I groan before climbing out of his lap. “I need to go. I need to talk to my parents.”

He nods. “Do you want me to come with you?”

“No. I’d better go alone. My dad might kill you if you show up with me before I get a chance to explain,” I say. The words feel like a joke but they’re not.

Carlo nods, his eyes shuttered and closed off. “I’ll get to work on damage control.”

He kisses me. “Drive safe, okay?”

I nod and he lets me go. My heart feels like lead as I head over to my parents’ house. I don’t know if I’m even in the right frame of mind to explain what happened, but I have to do this before they draw too many conclusions on their own.

Carlo and I have come too far for me to let something like this ruin us.

CHAPTER22

Carlo

I’m about to lose my shit. I’m pacing from one length of my living room to another, tension coiling in my veins. I haven’t seen Tori in two days. Not since she left the night the story broke.

“You’re giving me a headache,” Khalil groans.

I lift my head to glare at him.

“I agree with Larsen. Sit down, Carlo. Worrying about it won’t do you any good,” Christian adds.

“You’re right. I should just head over to her house and get her.”

Christian’s quick to shut that down. “No. First off, the Bianchi mansion is well-guarded. Second, I’m pretty sure Salvador’s out for your blood so just fall back and let Larsen do his thing.”

* * *

I wakeup and there’s no one in the room. I sit up, groaning softly and clutching my stomach. I glance at the digital alarm clock on the bedside table and see that it’s noon. One look at my phone and I realize I’ve been unconscious for an entire day. There’s an IV in my arm. I rip it out. I’m not in pain anymore and I really need to get my girl.

I’m about to stand when someone bursts into the room. I raise an eyebrow at Khalil.

“How you feeling?” he asks.

“I’ve been better,” I manage to say, feeling a sharp painful prick in my ribs.

I’m pretty sure the fuckers broke one of them.

“We told you not to go to the Bianchi mansion. Did you think you could take down all those fucking guards by yourself?”

“I damn sure tried. I’ve got to find my girl man.”

“I know. That’s what I’m here to talk to you about Carlo. We have a problem. Astoria’s been abducted,” Larsen says to me, his expression tight. “Dante Marino has her.”

I swear my heart fucking stops. “What the fuck did you just say?”

“I’m not sure what happened? Salvador contacted my company a few minutes ago, frantic. Apparently, Astoria left the house with Dante two days ago. Salvadore set up the meeting in an attempt to get them to move forward with their original arrangement but it backfired.

They had dinner reservations but never made it to the restaurant. Instead, he took her to some unknown location and then called Salvador, asking him to agree to a business deal if he wants his daughter back.”

I silently take all that in. I imagine Dante Marino’s face and see red. I’m not thinking straight when I grab the collar of Khalil’s shirt, pulling him closer.
