“Take off your shirt,” I command. “Use it to apply pressure.”

He stares at me, uncomprehending.

I cock my head to the side. “Do you want to die?” I ask calmly. He hurriedly shakes his head before doing as I asked. I smile. “Well done. Your arms next.”

“It hurts, doesn’t it?” I ask, staring at him. “You should have thought things through before going after my girl.”

“No!” Tori yells, distracting me. I look up at my girl, feeling something clench in my chest. Fuck. I can’t believe I almost lost her. “That’s enough.”

“No, it’s really not,” I say, shaking my head.

“Please, don’t kill him,” she says, her eyes welling up with tears.

I clench my jaw. “Of course I’m going to kill him. He just hasn’t suffered enough, and I’d hate for him to bleed out too early.”

“Carlo, you have. You’ve tortured him enough. Look at him.”

I grit my teeth. This wasn’t what I had in mind for Marino. But I can hear the hysteria in her voice, the way it quivers. She’s been through enough. And it’s Tori. There’s not a lot of things I wouldn’t’t do for her but letting this fucker live, isnt one of them.

I step back from Marino. He’s groaning in pain on the floor.

“Please,” he begs but its too late. I’m already in my trance and have tuned out his begging.

I pull my gun out, aiming it at his forehead. “Before I kill you, apologize,” I grit out.

“Please don’t, I’m sorry!” he cries.

“Not to me. To her.”

Dante turns his head to look at Tori. Her hands are clenched tight.

“I’m sorry,” he says, tears streaming down his face.

And then, I aim to shoot, but Tori rushes over and stands in front of me, placing a soft hand on my cheek. “Please. Please don’t kill him,” she begs.

I’ve never been this close and backed away from a kill, not until now. When Tori touches me, it’s as if she awakens something inside me. I can actually hear Marino’s screams of pain and his fear. “I have a daughter. I’m sorry. Please, let me try to be a father to her. Please, don’t kill me,” he pleads.

I still want to kill him, but I can’t. Tori’s hand on me has brought an unprecedented sense of calm.

“We need to take him to the hospital,” she says.

“I’ll do no such thing.”

“You can’t leave him here like this; he’ll die!”

“I’m begging you. Please,” she cries out.

Reluctantly, I give my guys instructions to drop him off at a hospital.

I let out soft breath before walking toward my girl. Her eyes are wide and fearful. I stop in front of her, wondering if any of the fear is directed at me. But she’s not looking at me, she’s staring at al the blood pouring out of Dante’s body.

“Baby,” I call softly. She jerks, looking up at me. “I’m sorry you had to see that.”

“Thank you. For coming to rescue me but… Just, please. Take me home.”

“I’ll take care of things here,” Khalil informs me.

“Thanks,” I say gratefully.
