“Uh huh.” I can’t form words. All that comes out of my mouth is incoherent mumbling. Her red, glossy lips hover so near my own I can practically taste her already.

“I wonder what would happen to a prince who needed to be woken if a princess gave him a kiss.”

A soft, mirthless laugh rumbles in my chest. “I’m no prince, Jessie.”

All I can see is her smile and the way her perfect white teeth contrast with the bright paint on her lips as she says, “Lucky I’m not really a princess, then.”

She presses her lips to mine and, though they only brush mine with the lightest touch, I float in the sensation as if I truly am free from my trap and soaring above the city on outstretched wings.

Too soon she pulls back, sliding her hands down my chest as she lowers to her heels. “That’s enough for tonight, though. If I wake you up all at once, then I don’t get paid for the rest of the week.” She’s gone from my arms while I’m still floundering with my stupid racing thoughts.

Bending, she scoops her jacket from the ground and collects the rest of her things. She turns and gives me a wink. “See you tomorrow.”

Christ alive! I’ve never hated my stone perch and the hours of daylight sleep so much in all the years I’ve been cursed.

I twist my body to stare after her as she slips through the door to the stairs and leaves me. I peer over the edge of the building at the street below to catch a glimpse of her as she passes.

I feel a hundred years younger. More! I have movement in limbs I haven’t moved in years and an ache in my stiff cock, which still hasn’t calmed since holding her in my arms. It’s hard to believe my body reacted so powerfully to this little human. I have no doubt if she returns she’ll be able to rouse me fully. Then it dawns on me: there’s only one reason for me to respond so powerfully to her.

Gargoyle legend isn’t well known. As a rule, gargoyles are not creatures who seek the company of others. For one reason or another, many of us tend to live alone, hardly ever meeting to talk to others of our kind. So I’m a little vague on the details. But I’ve heard stories of a fated mate who is a gargoyle’s only hope of ever breaking their curse. A fated mate who is damn near irresistible.

Beneath my loincloth, my dick gives a little jump. Would I be able to resist if she comes back to dance naked in front of me, to rub those enticing curves up against my newly woken flesh and press those sweet lips against mine?

Not a chance! If I get her back in my arms again, I’m not sure I’d ever be able to let her go. I don’t even need the added temptation of breaking the curse. Her allure is enough. But if I take her, she’ll be bound to me forever.

Jessie is bright and beautiful as the first flower of spring. And far less delicate. I’d happily follow her around, regardless of a bond. If I wasn’t tethered in place, I’d be on that street following her home right now! Yet, I hesitate. She doesn’t need to be saddled with a great cumbersome beast like me.

With a start, I realize what I must do.

I must pretend I’m not interested in her dances. I’ll have to shut my eyes and shut off my senses from her to give me the strength of will to send her away. She doesn’t deserve to be held back. Not by me.

That sounds like the worst form of torture I’ve endured in nearly one thousand years. But for her, I’ll do it. I’ll do anything.
