The last thing I want is a girl that has fucked half the state of Texas.

Rumor is they all planned to attend Grain Field College until they found out we enrolled at Groveton. Our families have attended Groveton College for years. I’m not sure why anyone would expect us to go elsewhere.

Danica Jones, the group’s ringleader, approaches Rodney. She puts her hand on his arm as he glares down at the offending appendage. She speaks a little too loudly, in a voice that is supposed to be sincere. The conniving cunt is a bad actress.

“Rodney, I am so sorry to hear about your dad. This is all such a tragedy. Hopefully, that wretched man gets everything he deserves.”

I hold my breath to see Rodney’s reaction, and he doesn’t disappoint. As if in slow motion, Rodney moves his free hand to grip Danica’s, which is still resting on his arm. Once he moves it from his arm, he squeezes hard enough that Danica winces, crying out in pain.

Gareth steps up to intervene, drawing Danica’s attention, her eyes teary. As soon as she realizes she has Gareth’s attention, she amps up the drama. Her whiny voice is worse than nails on a chalkboard.

“Gareth…” Her chest starts heaving as she speaks, causing my eyes to roll.

“Why did he have to do that?” she continues.

Gareth pinches the bridge of his nose as he starts to speak. Danica is cradling her hand to her chest as Rodney stomps off toward the dorm.

“Danica, what is your fucking problem? Your sympathies, while I’m not sure are genuine, are appreciated. We are all trying to put the recent events behind us and would prefer you not bring it up again.”

Opening her mouth to speak, Callum chimes in, obviously having reached his limit.

“ENOUGH! You hear Gareth. We can’t and won’t discuss what happened. Now, piss the fuck off. Go find another set of cocks to tease. Ours are off limits.”

A snicker escapes me, earning me a glare from Danica in return. While not adding my comments to what is going on, I agree wholeheartedly with the guys. Raising a challenging eyebrow in her direction, Danica stomps her foot like a toddler.

Spinning around, her long blonde hair fans out behind her. The sheep all follow as she walks away.

Stepping into Hearst Hall, Gage Mitchell is helping to direct students in the right direction. Smiles brighten our faces as we approach him.

Gage is on the basketball team. While none of us play, we often work out together in the gym. Once we are close enough, seeing a hand-written name tag saying “RA,” we do the handshake, backslap, bro-hug thing that guys often do.

“Dude, thank God we have you. Hopefully, this year will have a bright spot yet,” excitement laces my voice.

“Ashton, you don’t know the half of it.” Gage’s grin goes from ear to ear, not hiding his enthusiasm. “This dorm is co-ed. Free pussy in the building, no more sneaking around.”

As if on cue, two girls walk by, heading to the elevators. Gage’s head tracks their movement, our conversation momentarily forgotten.

“No shit!” Callum is almost as excited as Gage as he takes a step to the side, checking out the asses of the girls that just walked past us. ‘That sounds awesome.” Snapping his head back to us, he continues. “Have you seen anyone good yet?”

“Meh, I am keeping my options open,” Gage responds with a shrug.

“Did you finally ditch Payton?” Gareth asks as a reminder, liking to stir the shit pot.

“What day is it? These bitches man, they are nuts!”

“Yeah, we got ambushed by the Pussy Patrol. We barely had the car parked.” I say with a full-body shudder.

“Those chicks will have a severe reality check when you guys finally find someone you want to keep,” Gage responds, somewhat distracted by the girls walking by us.

“I don’t see that happening anytime soon,” Gareth says flatly as he turns to start toward the elevator. Those girls are no longer in sight.

“Ha! Alright, you guys go get settled. Let me know if you need anything,” Gage says before walking away to help someone who needs it.

A chill runs over my body. Thinking back to the night we had dinner and the conversation about a betrothal.

Shaking off the dark thought, I jog to catch the guys as the elevator opens.
