We do it for what feels like a long time, but I assume it’s actually only a few minutes. By the time we’re done, my throat hurts. Everything hurts. I turn to look at Dom. “I don’t think anyone heard us.”

He pinches the bridge of his nose, breathing slowly. “For now. We don’t have to give up trying.”

“Maybe we should try to pry the doors open again,” I say softly. “Maybe there’s a better chance that someone can hear us like that.”

“Sure. I can try to do that again.”

“No,” I say. “You’ve already done it once. Let me try.”

He’s clearly thinking that he’s stronger than me, but it doesn’t matter. I am desperate to get out of here. I’m going to do whatever it takes. I wish we had some implement or something that allowed me to pry this fucking door open, but there’s nothing…except for my shoe.

I mean, it might break my shoe, but these were expensive. Maybe if I can wedge it in there when we finally pry the doors open, that could help. Fuck. I have no idea.

I’ve already kicked them off at some point, though I don’t remember when. “Dom, have my shoe at the ready,” I tell him. “I don’t know if it’s going to work, but…”

“Gotcha. I’m here,” he replies. He could’ve questioned if my plan is going to work, but he didn’t, and I really appreciate that.

It takes me a few seconds to be able to pry the door open, but it’s not difficult. It’s mostly just slippery, so it takes me some effort to keep holding it open. The doors aren’t heavy. They seem to be hydraulic or something since they stay open with only a little bit of effort. Maybe the shoe plan is going to work after all.

“Help!” I scream into the wall. “Can anyone hear us?”

Dom approaches me, my shoe in his hand. “This might ruin your shoe, but the sole might be enough to keep the elevator open.”

I don’t know if he’s right, but I know we have to try.

It takes Dom a few seconds to pry the doors open a little further than I have, but I have my foot in place and they don’t seem like they’re going to close. I’m bracing my other foot against the wall behind me and I’m holding the doors open even though it’s exhausting. But I hold it open long enough for Dom to wedge my shoe in there and for me to pull my foot away. Hopefully, this is going to activate a sensor that will hold the doors open until someone can hear us.

I mean, if this elevator doesn’t go down and we’re still stuck in here because no one heard us, we’re fucked. Maybe there are some other elevators we can use. Maybe we can figure out a way to climb up that wall and get out.

We have to. I can’t think of a fucking alternative.

Javi

Itdawnsonme, with a bit of horror, that I never even got Alana’s contact details. I have no idea where she is. I don’t even know what floor her room is on. That feels like something I should’ve asked her, but it simply never occurred to me. I guess I just assumed we were going to be spending quite a bit of time together on the tour and I would eventually be able to get her information like that.

It never occurred to me that I wouldn’t be able to see her.

That I would need to find her like this.

My phone vibrates in my hand when Londyn calls me. “Did you find her?” I ask.

“No,” she says. She doesn’t call me out on not greeting her, which strikes me as odd. “She isn’t with the band. They thought she was with you.”

“Well, she’s not with me. Did you call emergency services yet?”

“Yes. And building maintenance. Don’t freak out, alright?”

I grimace. “Just tell me,” I say.

“There’s a small chance she’s stuck in an elevator.”

I blink. “Come again?”

“Well, I can’t find her with the band, she’s not anywhere outside, she isn’t in the lounge or lobby–I’ve asked everyone I know to look out for her and no one has seen her yet.”

“It’s only been a few minutes,” I say. It’s not a great argument. It sounds about as unconvinced as I feel.

The hallways are lit, but when I press the button to call the elevator, nothing happens. My breath catches in my throat. She couldn’t have been that unlucky, right? I know she’s staying on the seventh floor but I have no idea where the elevator actually is.
