“He called me and confessed. Also said he was Shiloh’s biological father. Which means Coleman was fucking his cousin, and you wanted him to marry her.”

There is a pause, but I can hear the blood pumping through my ears because I know without a doubt that I’ve just not only confirmed this shit is true but also that my dad has no goddamn clue about Shiloh.

“She is his daughter.” It isn’t a question. It’s a statement. He didn’t know. “She is his daughter, and he was pushing for a marriage. He was the one who suggested it to Ray.”

“Why the fuck?” I ask.

“That’s what I would like to know. Emergency meeting. Just executives and managers at the club, one hour.”

Fuck.

He ends the call, and I close my eyes, letting out a heavy sigh as I think about what this means for the night. I can’t remember the last time someone in the family was under fire this way. And this is my father’s brother. But I know that when it comes to the family, we are all related, and nobody is above anyone else when they’ve done something this fucked up.

And this is one of the most fucked-up things I’ve heard in the ten years since my initiation, so I have no fucking clue what is going to come out of it. “Wells,” a welcome, sweet voice calls out from behind me.

Lifting my head, I turn and look over my shoulder at her. She’s standing there in the doorway, obviously apprehensive. Turning around completely to face her, I dip my chin in a silent order for her to come to me.

She understands that demand and her bare feet begin to move. Reaching out, I wrap my fingers around her hip and gently tug her toward me with a grunt. Tipping my chin, I look into her eyes, searching them for that sadness. That haunted look that I saw in my mother’s office. It’s there, but it isn’t as prominent as it was then. I take full credit for that, me and the orgasms I gave her.

“I have to go in to work. I have an emergency meeting,” I murmur.

She tilts her head to the side, her gaze searching my own. “An emergency real estate meeting?”

I hum, touching my mouth to hers before I speak, my lips moving against hers. “Yeah, cupcake. That’s exactly what it is.”

Pressing my mouth to hers, I give her a hard kiss, then release her. She takes a step backward, her eyes finding mine, then she steps to the side, holding her body a bit stiffly. It’s clear that she thinks I’m leaving, and that’s that. Which, under normal circumstances, would be true.

But like she said, she isn’t normal.

And I fucking love that about her.

PARKER

I’m notsure I understand what’s happening here. I start to ask him if or when he’ll be back but decide against it, mainly because that sounds stalkerish, I think. So, instead, I take a step to the side, and he smirks as he continues to watch me.

“I’ll be back later. Don’t know when, but I’ll be back.”

Nodding once, I stay where I am. He walks toward me, lifts his hand, and cups my cheek. “I will be back sometime tonight. Don’t worry, yeah? This isn’t a one-night thing.”

I want to believe him so badly, mainly because there is no reason not to, but at the same time, there is also no reason to. I keep thinking about it, but it’s still the truth. This man is a stranger to me. I don’t know what is going to happen with him, and it makes me feel anxious.

I feel the need to call Doctor Hamilton again. Then I realize I threw my phone on the floor earlier and never picked it back up again. Wells shifts his head back slightly, his eyes searching mine again before his hand falls from my cheek and he takes a step backward.

Without another word, he turns and walks into the condo. I watch him for a moment, then decide to follow behind him. Closing the door behind me, I watch him disappear down the hall to my room.

I take that time to find my phone and check the battery percentage. Five percent. Walking over to the charger, I place it down and sink my teeth into my bottom lip, then turn around when I hear a noise.

It’s Wells walking into the living room, his shirt still unbuttoned and showing off both his muscles and tattoos as he carries his socks and shoes in one hand and his phone in the other. I watch as his thumb moves over the screen of his phone, and I think about asking him what he’s doing, but know it isn’t my place.

I’m unable to keep my gaze off him. Again, he moves through my condo like it’s his, and he fits so well here that I don’t want him to leave… ever. Except that’s exactly what he’s getting ready to do, and even though he said he would be back, I’m pretty sure he won’t be.

I watch him put his shoes on, then he stands and buttons his shirt, tucking it in and hiding the view of his chiseled abs from me. When he lifts his head, his gaze finds mine and he smirks. There is a moment of silence as he searches again. It seems like he’s always looking for something, but I don’t know what.

He moves toward me, then stops again, his body so close that I can smell him. I can smell myself on him. God, how embarrassing. He dips his chin, touches his lips to mine, and murmurs a promise to return.

“Be good,” he calls out as he closes the door behind him, then locks it.

As soon as I hear the lock click closed, it reminds me that he has a key to my place, and I never figured out how he got it. That should scare the absolute shit out of me, but like all things that include Wells, it doesn’t.
