My lips curve up into a grin. “Biggest dick in the whole fucking world, brother.”

Hendrick chuckles, then he opens the car door. “Second biggest dick,” he snaps, then slams the door shut, and I’m the one left laughing. This is why I brought my little brother with me. He’s fucking hilarious.

ChapterThirty-Four

PARKER

Picking up my phone,I send a text to Allison asking her if she’ll come over to Wells’s condo today… and bring me clothes. Sinking my teeth into my bottom lip, I sit on the couch, my feet up in the cushion, my chin resting on my knees as I wait for her response.

ALLISON: You slut. I love it. Pin me the location, and I’ll be there as soon as I take a shower after spending the night with my own hot guy.

Who’s the slut?

ALLISON: Always me. I’m always guilty. Be there soon!

Laughing, I slide my thumb up the screen and find my Kindle icon. I touch it and let out a sigh as my book opens. I’m not sure what the rest of the day will bring. I don’t know what Wells is doing at my work, but as for right now, I’m going to get lost in my book.

I read for longer than I probably should. I’m sure I ought to go look for food, maybe even something to drink, but I can’t. I’m at the good part where she is running from the love she has for the hero.

He is denying his love, but when she becomes so distant that he feels the loss like a living, breathing thing, he chases after her. He insists that she is his. He confesses his love.

Swoon.

These are my favorite love stories. The grumpy-sunshine trope, the denying feelings, and then suddenly something forces the hero to declare them not only to the heroine but also to the world.

There is a knock on the door that causes me to jump. My phone flies out of my hand, landing somewhere on the carpet. I laugh to myself, unsure as to why I am the way I am. I’m a mess.

Standing, I tug down Wells’s shirt, thankful he’s so much taller than me, but he’s obviously thinner than I am, and the shirt barely covers my ass. But it doesn’t matter because it’s Allison on the other side, and she’s seen it all, plus she’ll have some clothes for me to change into.

“You’re finally…” My words die at the sight of the man standing in front of me.

A man.

Not Allison.

He doesn’t look surprised to see me, but I am sure as hell shocked to see him. Taking a step backward, I try to close the door, but I fail. He chuckles and moves into the condo, slamming the door behind him.

I shake my head. I am pissed off that I dropped my phone. I open my mouth to say something, but he speaks first.

“The Hamilton family has ruined my life, specifically Wells. Now, I am going to ruin his.”

I press my lips together, not sure what to say. I don’t know anything about Wells’s family. I only know his mother and him. But I have no idea how he could ruin someone’s life with real estate. That’s what he does. How could he ruin anything? I start to ask that, but I don’t get the opportunity.

The man leaps toward me and wraps his fingers around my shoulders. I open my mouth to scream, but he releases one of my shoulders, reaches his hand back, and brings it down across my face.

He holds my body upward, not allowing me to fall, but my knees tremble and threaten to give out beneath me. Tears prick my eyes at the pain radiating across my face from the backhanded slap.

I’ve never been hit before.

My aunt and uncle were assholes who wanted to try and steal my money. They acted like I was a burden, but they didn’t physically abuse me. Wells chokes me, pulls my hair, bites me and leaves bruises, but it’s not out of anger, only for pleasure. This is different, and I can feel my face heat immediately from the assault and want to cradle it, but I don’t.

“You say a fucking word, and I’ll kill you. Come on,” he barks as he jerks my shoulder forward.

I look around for a way to leave some kind of sign that I’ve been taken, but there’s nothing. I’m literally in panties and a T-shirt, no bra, no pants. My phone sits on the floor, and I cringe at the sight, wishing I had kept a better grip on it when this asshole was knocking on the door.

Without another word, he drags me out of the condo and heads straight toward the elevator. I can only hope that someone will see us and call for help. But as the elevator car door opens, we step inside, and it rides straight down to the bottom without a single stop in between. My hope begins to wane.

As soon as he forces me out of the elevator and toward the door, I try to plant my feet because I know that if I am taken out of the building, the odds of me coming back will be zilch. But my efforts are for naught. This man drags me right out the front door, and nobody says a damn word to him.
