We’d never be able to publicly expose her. Not with who and what we are. It would be a gigantic shit show, and we’d probably all end up in prison over some fake bullshit… or maybe real bullshit. Either way, we would end up in prison, and she would have the last laugh.

“Kill them,” my father grinds out as he takes his phone out of his pocket and walks out of the room.

I’m sure he’s going to call a family meeting about this. I know I would if I were him, at least with the upper executives and managers. As soon as my father walks out of the room, Coleman lifts his gun and takes one shot at the guy who was talking and ends him quickly.

The lone man against the wall cries out when his friend drops to the ground in a pile of twitching flesh. Lifting my gun, I end him before he makes any more noise.

“Cleanup crew?” I ask.

Coleman chuckles before his eyes find mine and he speaks. “Already called and pin sent.”

Together, we walk out of the house, a fucking home of horrors no doubt filled with the ghosts of dozens of women who were tortured to death. We should just burn the whole place to the ground, making a completely clean slate and a place for the spirits to find peace as much as they can.

As I walk up to the SUV, I see my father shove his phone into his pocket, his head turning to look back at us.

“Take me home,” he states. “Tomorrow morning at ten, we have a meeting, the entire family.” He stops at the front passenger door and turns to Hendrick. “You’re staying at home for a while.”

That is that.

Hendrick is, without a doubt, not coming out of this completely unscathed. He fucked around a little too hard, and he’s about to find out what happens. Granted, I’ve never done what he has, but I’ve been in enough trouble in my days to know he’ll come out of it a better member of the family, even if he’s without a doubt going to be a little broken.

I feel my body moving, and I jump, almost falling out of Wells’s arms and onto the ground. He grips me a bit tighter as he moves into my building. I let out a sigh as he opens the front door, then walks straight toward the elevator bank and touches the button for my floor.

Wrapping my arms around his neck, I rest my head against his shoulder as I let out a heavy sigh. The silence around us should probably feel uncomfortable, but it doesn’t. I will take this silence with him over the quiet of that hellhole any single day.

The doors open, and he heads toward my condo. We slip inside, but he doesn’t let me down, not even when he locks the door behind him and carries me straight toward the bathroom. I expect him to start the shower, but he doesn’t.

Instead, he turns the handle of the bathtub faucet before he gently sets me down on the cool tile floor. I don’t drop my arms from around his neck, though. Tipping my head back, I look up into his eyes, searching them. For what? I’m not sure, but whatever it is, I don’t find it.

“Wells?” I call out on a whisper.

He hums but doesn’t say anything as he waits for me to speak. “Am I too damaged for you?”

There is a moment of silence as he stares at me before he jerks his chin. He clears his throat, then shakes his head once.

“Why would you think that?” he asks. He cups my cheeks gently, one of his thumbs sliding across my bottom lip, the other one lightly brushing across the bruised area of my face.

Slipping my tongue out, I wet my bottom lip where his thumb just traced my flesh. “I was kidnapped, I was held, and they were going to hurt me. Really hurt me. I might not ever mentally get over this, Wells. I already have issues, and now this?”

His lips twitch into a small smile before he dips his chin and touches his mouth to mine. “Luckily, I know a wonderful therapist.”

He takes a step backward. My arms are forced to fall from his shoulders, and I watch as he turns toward the tub. He switches it off, then turns toward the shower and starts the water there.

“Rinse off,” he murmurs. “Then soak.”

Looking toward the mirror at the vanity, I suck in a breath at the sight of my body. I unbutton the shirt he put on me earlier and sink my teeth into my bottom lip as I take in the entire picture of my reflection. I’m covered in dried blood… everywhere.

Shifting my gaze to him, I watch as he sheds his shoes and pants, and I see he is covered in dried blood as well. We make quite the pair, and I can’t seem to feel bad about the fact that this blood was once inside of a living body and now it no longer is.

I step into the shower behind him, and Wells turns to face me, one of his hands wrapping around the back of my neck, the other he places flat against the center of my chest. My breath hitches as I wait for him to speak.

I’m not sure what he’s going to say, so I hold my breath as I wait. His gaze searches mine, then he gives me a small smile before he speaks.

“I almost lost you before I ever truly had you, cupcake. I didn’t know what I was feeling, but I didn’t like any of it. I never want to be in that situation again. You’re mine. Everything is going to be okay.”

His mouth touches mine, his lips brush against my own, then he lifts his head as the water washes over us. The blood rinses down the drain, washing away the entire day and evening.
