A treacherous abyss had lain under us all this time, I realized, my heart speeding up as Nightclaw continued to fly forward.

Beneath the glass surface wasnothing. Absolutely nothing.

A void stretched out before us. A void Nightclaw was still running straight towards.

CHAPTER 31

Itugged desperatelyat the reins, panic coursing through my veins.

“Stop! Nightclaw, stop!” Raw fear laced through my voice.

The cat moved forward resolutely, his feral power overwhelming my pleas.

We hurtled on.

The chasm's gaping mouth loomed ever closer.

Through the bond I had briefly sensed the other night, a flicker of reassurance passed. The barest whisper of emotion carried on a current. A wisp of calm. A wordless message claiming all would be well. An attempt to assuage my mounting dread.

But my mind echoed with terror, already vividly imagining our impending fall into the abyss below.

I screamed again, pleading for Nightclaw to halt, already knowing it was too late.

The cat pressed ahead, driven by an unyielding determination that surpassed my comprehension.

My eyes widened, pupils dilating with fear as the edge drew near, the dark depths threatening to engulf us whole.

The battlecat's muscles tensed beneath me.

I squeezed my eyes shut as my stomach plummeted.

We fell into oblivion.

And then we began to soar.

My eyes popped open.
