I swore. Loudly. My voice echoing off the stone walls. “Oh, you stupid, stupid man.”

There was a creaking sound.

I whirled around. The door at the top of the stairs was opening.

A figure stood silhouetted in the frame. They stepped forward. The light behind them hit their face.

A ripple of disbelief went through me. Any words I might have said dried up, as my breath caught in my throat.

“Morgan?” Lancelet stepped into the chamber. “Is it really you?”

EPILOGUE 1

Weeks Earlier...

I was lying on a cold stone floor. My body was pressed uncomfortably against its unforgiving surface.

There was a figure hunched over me. A boy.

His face was pale and unsettling. His eyes were a bright inhuman blue.

A question was on my lips, but before I could voice it, the boy opened his mouth and descended upon my flesh, sinking his teeth into the soft surface.

A wave of searing pain.

Anguish engulfed me.

I became aware that the boy was not alone.

Oher children surrounded me. Their twisted visages were the stuff of nightmares.

Lifeless eyes betrayed an insatiable hunger.

Gnarled hands clawed and tore at my fragile skin.

The assault was relentless. It elicited a symphony of distorted cries and haunting moans, amplifying my sense of unyielding dread.
