“I’m not telling you…”

Aryan hung up without allowing her to finish and walked over to one of the security guards.

“Did Her Highness walk past here?”

“I think she went towards the restroom,” replied the guard.

Aryan tipped him a hundred and stomped over to the restrooms. He looked around to make sure no one was watching, and pushed open the door to the ladies.

Jessie was huddled on a padded bench, with Nivy crouching on the floor next to her. They turned around in shock when he stalked in.

“You can’t come in here, Aryan,” yelped Nivy.

Aryan ignored her and stood looking down at Jessie, who was pointedly not looking at me.

“Jess, look at me.”

She shook her head stubbornly.

“I know how it looks, but I had nothing to do with this meeting. I thought I was taking Ma out for lunch. Trust me, I had no idea that she had invited Arshia and her parents to join us.”

Jessie still wouldn’t look at him.

“And what about the rest of it?” asked Nivy.

Aryan turned to glare at his sister.

“Can I talk to Jessie alone, please?”

“No!”

“Nivy, if you don’t leave us alone right now, I’m not going to dance at your wedding. I won’t even attend the blasted event,” he threatened.

“If you hurt my best friend, I wouldn’t want you there anyway,” said Nivy defiantly. But she did pick up her handbag and stomp out.

“I’ll be right outside. Holler if you need me, Jess, and I’ll call Security,” she said, as a parting shot.

Aryan locked the door from inside because he didn’t want any more interruptions. Jessie stared at him wide-eyed.

“What the hell are you doing? Do you want this to be splashed across tomorrow’s newspapers? Open that door right now,” she ordered.

Aryan crossed his arms across his chest and glared at her.

“No.”

She sighed wearily.

“Look, there’s no need for all this drama. I told you, just apply for a grant from the Foundation, and we’ll set up your precious clinic for you. And you can marry Arshia with my blessings.”

She splashed some water on her face and began scrubbing under her eyes with a tissue.

“Jess, tell me exactly what she said.”

“Nothing that I hadn’t already suspected.”

Aryan’s patience was wearing thin.

“Jessie, stop this drama and just tell me what you heard,” he snapped.
