“You think so?” Susan asks, looking worried.

“Yeah,” I say. “Also you didn’t read me the start of the chapter, so I don’t exactly have context on what they’re supposed to be doing.”

“Well, it’s a little roleplaying thing the four of them came up with to spice up their sex,” she explains.

“What’s spicier than three guys going down on her at the same time?” I ask curiously.

“Pretending that they’re other people, and that it’s explicitly forbidden,” I explain.

“Hot,” I breathe. “That actually sounds fucking good.”

She smiles. “I know.”

“So, wait, I’m trying to get this right. They’re not actually a vet, a ranger, or a paramedic?”

“Oh no, they are,” Susan explains. “That’s how she met them in the first place. She got injured while driving inside a national park, and the ranger basically rescued her and took her back home. The four of them started living together since the girl had a concussion and needed a place to recover. But then one thing led to another, and they ended up developing a relationship. They wanted to take it to another level so they came up with this roleplaying game of switching places and personalities.”

I shake my head. “How do you even come up with this stuff?”

She smiles. “It’s a bit confusing since I haven’t actually named any of them. I usually wait till I get to the end to do that. And this roleplaying stuff—” She shakes her head. “Maybe it’s just not in my scope.”

“Nonsense,” I say.

Just then, Artie and Ed come downstairs.

“Hey, guys,” I say with a grin, “Susan’s working on this scene, and I had an idea. What if we do a little roleplaying to help her brainstorm?”

Artie and Ed exchange a glance, looking intrigued.

“Roleplaying?” Artie asks.

I nod. “Yeah. We can act out the scene that Susan’s been trying to write, and maybe we can come up with some ideas for her.”

Susan looks hesitant, but I can see the curiosity in her eyes. “I don’t know,” she says. “I don’t want to impose.”

“You aren’t,” I say.

She shakes her head. “This wasn’t even the scene I was trying to write in the first place. Perhaps I’m not ready for that.”

I turn to Susan with a curious look. “So, what was the original scene about?” I ask.

Susan looks a little sheepish, but she takes a deep breath and meets my gaze. “Well,” she starts, “it was about three men pretending to be bears, and the main character was Goldilocks. It was supposed to be this steamy, forbidden thing.”

I raise an eyebrow, feeling intrigued. “That’s definitely an…interesting concept,” I say with a chuckle. “But it sounds like it wasn’t quite working for you?”

Susan shakes her head. “No, I just couldn’t make it work. It felt too cheesy, and I couldn’t get the right tone.”

“Will you be in a better position if you actually act it out?” Artie asks curiously.

“Maybe?” Susan says. “But like I said, we don’t have to do that at all.”

I notice how tense Ed is.

“Don’t tell me you’re going to be the party pooper.”

He shakes his head. “I don’t know how I feel about ending up in her book.”

“I read the scene, and you have nothing to worry about,” I say.
