“Thea? What are you doing here?” My sister was languishing on my leather sofa, watching sports with Matty and Jackson, eating donuts in my shared house like this was a normal occurrence. Had I missed something? I knew my sister was friends with them, but I didn’t think they were that close.

“Hey, Tan Tan!” She lifted a donut in greeting with a wide smile sprawled across her face. She took a large bite into the glaze, pink sprinkles, and chewed like a savage beast. “Glad you’re finally here. I've been waiting for over an hour.”

Swallowing the dough, she gently placed the half-eaten donut on a napkin on the coffee table and dusted her fingers off. She sat up, but then took another bite before standing.

“Are those my sweatpants?”

She looked down at the gray pants with the Covey U emblem by the hip and laughed. “Yeah, uh, sorry. All my clothes are in the wash, and I remembered I had these, so I wore them. You don't mind, do you? We've shared a womb, and few people can say that, so what’s a pair of sweatpants between siblings?”

I cringed, and saw Matty do the same thing, even though he was concentrating on something on his phone.

“TMI, Queen T,” Jackson said, not taking his eyes off the TV. “Hey, T.” He was referring to me. “Did you know your sister hogs all the donuts and refuses to leave even when she's not invited to things.”

Thea gasped dramatically. “How dare you be so callous? When I've been nothing but supportive of you over the years.”

“Years?” Jackson took a sip of his beer. “I've known you for a few months.”

“Really?” She thought about it for a minute. “I guess you're right. Sorry, listening to you constantly drone on and on about Aiden has made it feel like years. Eighty-Two, to be exact.”

“Will you two stop flirting?” Matty dropped his phone, looking between my sister and Jackson, and I held my tongue in fear that I was going to vomit. My sister flirting wasn't new, but that didn't make it any easier when those barbs were directed at my roommate.

“Thea. What are you doing here?”

“I already told you. I had some very important information to share with you.”

“Pertaining to?” I raised a brow. My arms were folded because as much as I loved my sister, I was tired, and my head was killing me.

“The best thing to ever happen to you besides me.”

“What gossip have you got about me?” Jackson piped up, and Matty threw a pillow in his face.

“Not you,” Thea gritted out. “Aster,” she stated, as if I didn’t already know she was the best thing I was lucky enough to have in my life.

“What about her?”

“Well, do you remember that I said I’m planning on taking an elective in journalism next year?” I nodded, wondering where she was going with this. “Well, I met with a girl that majors in it, Sienna, and asked her a few questions about how to blow the lid on a story.”

“Okay,” I drawled out, not wanting to rush her, but knowing full well she would take her time explaining.

“Well, she recommended a few books, and I started reading them, and thought I would take things into my own hands.”

“Get to the point,” Jackson whined. “She’s been teasing this stupid story all afternoon.”

Thea rolled her eyes, giving Jackson the stink eye before turning back to me. “Fine. Long story, short. I may have some dirt on Rachel that would not only clear Aster’s name but could mean Rachel has to resign from the sorority.”

I immediately perked up. “And you waited this long to say something?”

“I’ve been working on it ever since Aster mentioned her to me a month ago but didn’t want to say anything until I had more.”

“Well, Thea… Tell me everything.”

Chapter 24

Thea:Something big is going to happen. I can just feel it. Can you?

I shook my head, placing my phone on the table next to my recliner because I had no idea what Thea was talking about. That wasn’t new, but in the last couple of days, she’d become even more cryptic than usual. Unfortunately, I wasn’t in the right mind to call her back and no doubt discuss her latest encounter with Jackson.

“How are you finding being back at home?” My mom asked quietly as she stretched. She’d fallen asleep on the sofa after we watched a movie, and I didn’t have the heart to wake or leave her, so I just placed a blanket over her and sat next to her.
