But then Rachel did something wholly unexpected. She winked at me and blew me a kiss.

Oh, she wanted to play games.

I could play.

Behind Aster’s back, and using the hand that was on her ass, I pretended to catch Rachel’s kiss, and that was enough to get her face splitting into a grin because she thought she had me.

Well, she didn’t. She never would.

With the invisible kiss still firmly in my grip, I pretended to throw it on the floor, and made a show of stamping over it with a twist, as though I was putting out a cigarette.

I snorted when Rachel frowned, seemingly utterly perplexed that someone might not be interested in her antics.

“Why are you laughing again?”

Dipping down, I whispered. “Will you let me do something?”

“Depends on what it is?”

“How about you trust me? Just this once?”

“Last time I trusted you, I ended up…” She hesitated, and then decided not to finish that sentence.

“You ended up what?”

She stuttered for a minute, surprised I wasn’t going to let her leave that hanging. I wanted to know what I did to tick her off. “Nothing. I’ll trust you for now.” She wrapped her hands around my neck, bringing her closer to me, and I took that as my opportunity. Slowly. So, so slowly, I inched my hand to her ass while looking at Rachel. I wanted her to know Aster was mine, and I had no interest in anyone but her.

“Umm, Tanner?”

I then pushed her hair aside and left a kiss on her collarbone before licking my lips, tasting her coconut body lotion. This girl really tasted as good as she looked.

“Tanner!” This time, she pulled at my hair to get my attention. “What are you doing?” she said sharply.

“I’m doing as you asked. Adding value.”

“By humping me on the dancefloor?”

“So, you were okay with me mauling you in the library, but this you take issue with?”

“Yeah, because you’re making us look like we’re sixteen at our first dance.”

“And how would you prefer we look?” I teased, enjoying the fact that I was getting a rise out of her.

“We’re whatever you want us to be. I’m here for you, remember? And if you want to tick off Rachel, this is the way to do it.”

“I’m sure there are other ways.” Her voice rose the closer my fingers skated to her ass, but she didn’t tell me to stop, which I most certainly would have if she said so.

“Nope. Not with a girl like her. Dazzling her with your smarts will do nothing. Taunting her with a guy is the only way to tick off a girl like Rachel. Why do you want to tick her off so much, anyway? Is it to make Connor jealous? Because that guy’s an idiot for letting a girl like you go.”

She stood a little taller on her heels, which took away any teasing. My hand was firmly on her ass now, covering her peachy globe like she was really mine.

“It’s not about Connor. Funnily enough, before I met him, I wasn’t thinking about guys. I just got a little sidetracked because he paid me a few compliments and worked his ass off to hook me.”

“So then why the Rachel hate?”

“Because she’s the head of a sorority that I’m feeling forced to be part of. She knows I don’t want it and is making it extra difficult for me just because she can.”

“Well, if it makes you feel any better, she’s currently staring at you like she wants to gauge your eyes out with a rusty spoon.” Aster couldn’t hide the smile on her lips. “Care to take it up a notch?”
