“What about your roommates?” she asked, staring at the ceiling.

“What about them? They don’t bite, and the place is really nice for student digs. Nothing like the hockey dorms.”

I grimaced because it was a stupid thing to bring up, and as her breath hitched, I knew I’d made a heinous mistake. Bringing up an ex that I wasn’t even sure she’d made it to his room wasn’t my finest hour.

“Good to know.” It was short, not so sweet and had my balls shriveling.

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to mention him, or your relationship. I just meant that it’s a comment a lot of girls who come to the parties thrown at the house say, and now I’ve just made it even worse, right?” I chuckled awkwardly, wondering why she hadn’t taken pity on me.

“It’s fine. Honestly, I never saw the hockey dorms. Whenever I asked Connor why he didn’t introduce me to his friends, he’d come up with some excuse about them being busy at practice.” She shook her head, laughing bitterly. “That was my first mistake when it came to him. He didn’t want to introduce me because he was too busy screwing every other girl he could. Justnotme.”

“I, for one, am glad that he didn’t get anywhere near you. A guy like him doesn’t deserve to take any happy memories away like that.”

“Oh, yeah?”

“Yeah. Now, let me cook for you tonight, andteachyou a few things about what a real man does for his woman.”

“Fine.” She bit her bottom lip. “But I’ve got a tutoring session with Alex until seven. Is that too late?”

“Nope. It’s perfect.”

Her shoulders dropped in relief. “Good, because he’s doing a great job, and I don’t want to stifle his progress.”

“Careful, Teach,” I warned. “I might start thinking I’m not your favorite.”

“Like all good teachers, I don’t have a favorite.”

I frowned. “Teacher’s only say that to the pupils that aren’t their favorite.”

“What can I say? You’ve got to earn that title, and I want to see harder work from you.”

“Oh, Miss. Paige. You wound me.” I kissed her on the lips right before pulling the covers back. “See you later?”

“Yeah, I want to call my mom before I go to see Professor Murphy, anyway. He wants me to apply to be his teaching assistant for his freshman class next year.”

I raised my brows in surprise. “Wow, that’s pretty prestigious, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, but it would mean I’d have to give up some hours tutoring, and I don’t know if I want to do that just yet.”

“Why not? You’re essentially just tutoring a larger cohort.” I quickly shoved on my clothes from yesterday, knowing that I’d be changing the minute I got into campus.

“Mhm, maybe.” She pushed her lips from side to side in contemplation, and I grabbed my bag, hauling it over my shoulder.

“Alright, Teach, I’ve got to get to practice before Coach kills me.” With that, I bent down and kissed her on the lips. When she threaded her hand through my hair, I knew I needed to pull back because there was a very real possibility that this would go too far. “Can I pick you up from the library at seven?”

“No. Don’t worry. I’ll make my way to yours.”

As I pulled away reluctantly, Aster groaned, pouting her bottom lip out. She looked exhausted. We’d been up most of the night kissing and fondling each other. Never fully going all the way because I was letting Aster take the lead. Whatever she wanted to do, I was here for. Even if it was just snuggling in her bed.

“See you later, Teach.” She mumbled out a soft goodbye, and when I was out in the hallway, I took extra time to shut the door quietly as I didn’t want to wake anyone up.

“Tanner?!” Her voice was shrill, making me wince. So much for being quiet. When I opened my eyes and turned around, Thea was standing with a fluffy pink bathrobe and a towel wrapped around her head. She also had a green face mask on, and those Wonder Woman slippers that I got her for Christmas a couple of years ago on her feet.

“Morning, T. What are you doing up so early?”

She tilted her head in annoyance. “Don’t act like you don’t know my beauty routine.” She waves a long brush in my face, and I stepped back, my lips curling in disgust because I didn’t want to know what she used that for. “I’m always up before the crack of dawn to get my hair, makeup and tan looking fresh.”

“Believe me, T. I didn’t forget. I shared a bathroom with you throughout high school, or have you already forgotten?”
