“Sure,” He drawled out, and I wanted to laugh because it was the first time I’d ever heard Aiden take orders from anyone, even if it was small. He clasped her hand and led her through the room. “We’ll be back in a couple of hours.”

“Two hours of peace. What are we going to do with the time?” Jackson laughed.

“I’ll see you guys later.” Alyssa waved as they opened the door to leave.

“Tanner. There’s a girl here to see you.” I tensed, thrilled that Aster was here.

“How do you know it’s for Tanner?”

Aiden glanced over his shoulder with a wicked grin. “Well, it’s not Britt, so it’s not for Matty, and let’s be realistic, Jackson. You’re not going to get a girl as hot as the one making her way up the drive. I mean, damn.” Aiden whistled, earning an elbow shove from Alyssa. “What? You can’t be jealous, can you? Because I blew up my entire kingdom just so I could be with you. I’m not sure what more you want me to do.”

With that, they sauntered down the path, passing Aster on the way.

The door was still open, and I pinned my two knucklehead roommates with a glare. “I’m trying to impress Aster. Please don’t say anything that would embarrass me.”

“So, we shouldn’t talk then?”

“Jackson,” Matty groaned, rolling off the recliner. “Come on. Let’s get out of Tanner’s hair.”

I shook my head, ignoring him as I walked through the great room to the door. When I opened it and saw Aster standing there with books in her hand and a bag over her shoulder, I smiled.

“Hey, Teach.”

“Hey. I’m starving.”

I chuckled, moving out of the way to give her space to walk in. She immediately stopped next to me. “Uh, hey.”

When I turned, I realized why she was so stunned. Matty and Jackson were staring at her. Saying nothing. Just staring. I may have told them not to say anything, but come on. This was bad.

“Matty, Jackson, this is Aster.”

She stepped forward, ready to shake their hands, and when she got to Matty, she pointed. “I know you. Aren’t you that guy Professor Murphy talks about all the time?”

“Am I?” Matty said, pushing a hand through his hair. He was never one for attention.

“Yeah. You’ve created some kind of AI technology that will predict the outcome of bets before they happen.”

“I wouldn’t say invented,” he said coyly. “Plenty of companies have been using technology like this for years to fix the bets.”

She narrowed her eyes and shook her head. “No. Yours is different, though. Professor Murphy didn’t tell me much, but he said you’re a genius.”

“Professor Murphy sounds like he needs to get laid,” Jackson joked, but Aster wasn’t amused.

“And you’re Jackson, I assume?”

He placed his palm on his chest. “My reputation must proceed me if you knew who I was without an introduction.”

“You’re my roommate. That’s how she knows you.”

Matty pulled Jackson’s collar. “Come on. Let’s get out of here.”

“Where are you going?” Aster asked, watching them move past. She couldn’t possibly want them here, could she?

“We’re going to entertain Tanner’s sister while he’s entertaining you,” Jackson replied, grabbing his jacket from the coat closet.

“You’re going to see Thea?” Her brow raised, and she had this cute little smile on her face that made me think she knew something I didn't.

Jackson dipped his head, directing it to the door. “Yeah, she’s our friend.” He eyes Aster suspiciously. Pretty much the same way I was looking at her, too.
