“Nothing fancy,” I conceded.

“No guarantees.”

“Everything you said was nice. But, I don’t want to give you the impression that I’ve forgiven you for leaving me like that.”

Remy nodded, understanding my hesitancy. “Understood.”

“So, nothing fancy?”

Remy smiled. “No guarantees.”

Chapter 10

Dillon

Hil and Cali exited the stairway waving enthusiastically to get my attention. I looked up and saw Hil’s face beaming, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.

“I was just upstairs in the LGBT center,” Hil said, clearly emotional. “You did a fantastic job, Dillon.”

“Well, it wasn’t just me,” I replied, touched by his reaction. “A few people contributed. It’s crazy how much work and cooperation is required for something like this.”

Then, I added reluctantly, “Remy deserves a lot of the credit, too.”

Hil cut me off immediately. “Don’t you dare give my brother credit for something he had nothing to do with. Not after the way he treated you.”

I relented knowing Hil hadn’t received an update on things since last night’s kiss. But even without that, I couldn’t ignore the role Remy played in making the center a reality.

Not only was it his idea, but I was a 21-year-old kid who didn’t know anything about anything. He found the designers, the architects, the recruiters, everyone. And after turning the center’s creation into a multiple-choice quiz, he put people beside me who pointed at the right answers.

I would have been lost if it wasn’t for him. Actually, that’s not true. I wouldn’t even have attempted to do it in the first place. I wouldn’t have had the confidence or the push to look past my insecurities. Without saying a word to me in months, Remy had changed the direction of my life.

“Speaking of credit hogs,” Hil muttered under his breath.

“Shit!” Cali exclaimed seeing him next.

As I turned to look at Remy, desire flooded my body. I hated myself for it, but I had given up trying to fight my feelings for him. No matter what Remy did, I would forgive him. Because despite everything, Remy was a good man, and there was nothing that would stop me from loving him.

“Shit, indeed!” I agreed, but for a very different reason.

I waved Remy over, pulling my emotions into check. As he approached, he greeted us with a smirk. “Brother,” he said to Hil, nodding. “Redneck Rambo,” he added, addressing Cali.

Cali rolled his eyes, his jaw clenched. “I’m gonna go get a drink. Anyone else want one? No? Good,” he said before walking off.

“Why do you always treat him like that? You’re such an asshole,” Hil snapped before hurrying after his boyfriend.

“Whydoyou always treat him like that? You know he’s good to Hil, right?” I asked Remy.

“He’s the best man I know. He took a bullet for my brother. I mean, Jesus.”

“Then why do say those things to him?”

“Don’t you find how perfect he is a little annoying?” Remy replied with a smirk. “I mean, either be a great person or have great hair. Make a choice.”

“We know what you chose,” I said, brushing his shiny black locks.

“Yes. Thank you!” he said resolutely.

“Dillon,” Jimmy said, approaching us.
