“This place looks great. You’ve really built something special here,” I told him sincerely.

Dillon’s cheeks flushed at the compliment. “We both did. None of this would’ve happened without you either.”

I started to protest but stopped myself. Dillon was right – my role in all this couldn’t be denied. But his heart and vision were what brought this place to life.

“Is everyone here?” I asked, changing the subject.

He nodded. “Just about. They’re waiting in my office. Be warned, Cali is a little more tense than usual.”

“Okay, what did you say to him?” I joked.

“Nothing!” he declared with his gorgeous milk chocolate-colored eyes stripping me of my defenses.

“You didn’t mention anything about dueling banjos, did you? Because I’m keeping that one on reserve for me.”

“I don’t know the reference,” Dillon said looking at me confused.

“There’s a scene in this classic movie called ‘Deliverance’ where two hillbillies kidnap this guy and tell him to squeal like a pig. Squeal like a pig! Squeal like a pig!” I recited in my best hillbilly accent.

“Remy, the only reason he’s here is to help. Can you at least be nice to him until he’s stopped risking his life for us?”

I lowered my head knowing the love of my life was right. “When it comes to Cali, I just can’t help myself. He’s so easy to make fun of.”

“Try. For me. Please,” Dillon asked, ensuring that I would.

“Anything for you,” I told him before clutching his shoulders and kissing him. It had been too long since I had.

“Should we do this?” Dillon asked when I let him go.

“There’s no time like the present,” I told him before leading him to his office.

Entering, I looked around. Cali was pacing anxiously while Hil and Dillon’s FBI friend, Jimmy, sat on the couch.

“Where’s your professional friend?” Hil asked seeing me alone.

“Yeah. Where’s this criminal mastermind you keep bragging about,” Cali snapped.

My eyes darted towards Jimmy.

“Criminal mastermind at board games, you mean,” I clarified.

“At board games?” Cali asked not understanding why I had said it.

“Yes. That’s what I told you, remember. There’s no one I know who can beat him at ‘Clue’.”

“What are you talking about?” He asked confused.

Jimmy cut Cali off. “Look, I don’t care what games he’s good at. The only question is, can he help us put Armand away?”

“Is that the FBI’s official stance?” I asked tensely.

“Oh,” Cali said before returning to pacing.

“All the Bureau cares about is putting New York’s biggest crime boss behind bars.”

Cali stopped staring silently at Jimmy.

I replied, “Good. Let’s remember that,” just in time for my ace in the hole to walk in.
