We all looked at each other until our eyes stopped on Lucien who was lost in thought.

“Don’t mind me. Continue on,” Lucien said dismissively.

“Is there something you want to share with the group?” I asked my cousin apprehensively.

“About this? No. About planning my cousin’s engagement party, maybe,” he said with a smirk.

“Engagement party?”

“You don’t think your best man would let this momentous occasion go by without throwing you an engagement party, did you?” He asked offended.

I was about to explain to him that I wasn’t planning on getting married when he continued.

“The only problem is that I am visiting from France. For the number of people the bride’s side of the family would want to invite, I could never find enough space. And then there’s security. If only someone had a suitable location where we could throw a party,” he concluded with a knowing smirk.

Jimmy stared at Lucien. “That might work,” he said stunned.

“Brilliant!” I said starting to believe that we could do this.

“How do you say, “game master”?” Lucien joked.

“Whatever,” Cali said finally relaxed enough to sit.

“I don’t suppose you’re going to tell me where you’ve been for the past week and a half,” Eris asked me as we sat across from each other at Le Bernardin.

I picked up my drink and took a sip. “If only I had the time,” I replied making sure she got the reference.

“I see you got rid of the watch.”

“I didn’t like the trace it left,” I said touching my wrist.

Eris stared at me knowingly. “I could deny I know what you’re talking about.”

“You could but why insult either of our intelligence.”

“It wasn’t my idea,” Eris said softly.

“Really?” I said doubtfully.

“Do you really think I know anything about putting a tracker in a transparent watch?”

“No. But I’m sure you could find someone who could figure it out.”

Eris didn’t respond. Looking away in guilt, she turned back more determined.

“Remy, why do we have to be on opposite sides?”

“Because what you want is not what I want, and you are a psychopath.”

“I’m not,” she said vulnerably.

“Which is definitely not what a psychopath would say,” I said taking another sip.

“Look, Remy, I want to be married to you as much as you want to be married to me,” she said dropping the façade.

“If that’s the case, then let’s call it off. Let’s just walk away, forget this ever happened.”

“So, what would you prefer, that my father kill everyone you know?”
