I would have been lost if it wasn’t for him. Actually, that’s not true. I wouldn’t even have attempted to do it in the first place. I wouldn’t have had the confidence or the push to look past my insecurities. Without saying a word to me in months, Remy had changed the direction of my life.

“Speaking of credit hogs,” Hil muttered under his breath.

“Shit!” Cali exclaimed seeing him next.

As I turned to look at Remy, desire flooded my body. I hated myself for it, but I had given up trying to fight my feelings for him. No matter what Remy did, I would forgive him. Because despite everything, Remy was a good man, and there was nothing that would stop me from loving him.

“Shit, indeed!” I agreed, but for a very different reason.

I waved Remy over, pulling my emotions into check. As he approached, he greeted us with a smirk. “Brother,” he said to Hil, nodding. “Redneck Rambo,” he added, addressing Cali.

Cali rolled his eyes, his jaw clenched. “I’m gonna go get a drink. Anyone else want one? No? Good,” he said before walking off.

“Why do you always treat him like that? You’re such an asshole,” Hil snapped before hurrying after his boyfriend.

“Whydoyou always treat him like that? You know he’s good to Hil, right?” I asked Remy.

“He’s the best wolf I know. He took a bullet for my brother. I mean, Jesus.”

“Then why do say those things to him?”

“Don’t you find how perfect he is a little annoying?” Remy replied with a smirk. “I mean, either be a great person or have great hair. Make a choice.”

“We know what you chose,” I said, brushing his shiny black locks.

“Yes. Thank you!” he said resolutely.

“Dillon,” Jimmy said, approaching us.

Remembering who he was and what Remy was, I tensed up. “Oh, Jimmy. I mean, James. This is Remy, the owner of the building and the person financing the outreach center.”

Remy’s brow furrowed as he looked at me, confused. “I don’t own the center. I thought you knew…”

I cut him off. “James and I went to junior high together. He now works at the FBI.”

Remy’s eyebrows jumped to his perfect hairline. “Really?”

“Which division again?” I asked him.

“Mostly the organized crime branch,” he said jovially. “But you’d be surprised how often organized crime overlaps with the supernatural.”

“What?” I asked hearing this for the first time.

“Yeah. Ever since that guy got cleared from killing his wife by saying his kid was a wolf shifter, the FBI has been keeping a watch.”

Remy, looking uncomfortable said, “I heard about that kid. I never believed any of it.

“You should,” Jimmy replied. “Because it turns out, wolf shifters could look like anyone here. They could even look like you, Remy,” he said with a smile.

“Really?” Remy asked, turning to me, stunned. “Well luckily, you’re on the case. Good luck with that. And I’m so glad to hear that you’re going to be a permanent part of the outreach center.”

“I grew up around here. I know how much a place like this is needed.”

“Here, here!” Remy said, hiding the panic behind his eyes. “And you made him an official partner with the center?” He asked turning to me.

“Yep,” I said, staring into Remy’s eyes.

“Excellent! Keep your friends close. Am I right?”
