“I kept thinking about you all night,” he said, returning to his flirtatious ways.

I stared at him. “You know, if you keep talking like that, you better be prepared with some follow-up, Mister,” I said, placing my body inches from his.

I was expecting him to kiss me. At least, I was hoping he would. But instead, he dropped his charm offensive and calmly said, “Noted.”

I was disappointed. Did this mean that his flirtation had always just been an act?

“I think I have a pretty good day planned,” he said casually walking away. My chest ached watching him go.

“Oh yeah? Care to share?”

“Are you the type who likes to know how a story will end or be surprised?”

I thought about that. It was a good question. If I knew that nothing would ever happen between the two of us, would I want to know that?

“Surprise me,” I told him, mustering a smile.

“Okay,” he said, faintly smiling back.

Gathering our stuff, we headed to a restaurant. Our breakfast was salmon and a fried egg on a doughnut. Wow!

From there we went to a museum called Orsay. In it were paintings I had heard of my entire life. Van Gogh, Monet, and Gauguin had all just been names. But now, there their paintings were in front of us. And we were taking selfies with them acting goofy.

From there we walked through the museum’s traveling exhibition. It featured the painting “The Scream” which I’m pretty sure was mentioned on ‘Sesame Street’. It hurt my brain considering that I was now somehow standing in front of it.

As captivating as everything was, by the time we left the museum, it was late. A whole day had flown by. Initially, I had felt overdressed and self-conscious among the tourists. But I quickly lost myself in the artwork. There was so much more beauty in the world than I had ever considered.

“Thank you for showing me that,” I told Remy as we exited past the giant clock and five-story wall of windows that were reminiscent of Grand Central Station.

“I thought you’d like that,” he said with a smile.

“Considering it was kind of pretentious, I’m assuming it’s one of your favorite spots?” I teased.

Remy blushed. “It is.”

I smiled. “Now it’s one of mine, too.”

Remy looked down at me, moved. It was then that he took my hand. He had never done that before. I had taken his, and he had kissed me, but never before had he done something so intimate. I liked it. I wanted more.

“Where to next?” I said, never wanting this day to end.

“Spoilers,” he said, looking pleased with himself.

When we got there, I had to admit that his cockiness was well-deserved. Because there it was before us, France’s most iconic symbol, the Eiffel Tower. I was dumbstruck.

It looked exactly like it did in pictures. And with the sun set, its lights set it aglow.

Staring at it, a tear streamed down my cheek. I didn’t know why I was crying, but I was. Everything was just so perfect. Not taking my eyes off of it, I rested my head on his shoulder.

“Thank you,” I whispered, unable to say anything else.

“You’re welcome,” he replied, pulling me into his arms.

I couldn’t take it anymore, I had to kiss him. I needed to be closer to him. So, with my heart thumping and my fist tightening, I was about to pull him down to me when…

“What was that? What’s going on?” I said as the Eiffel Tower began to twinkle.

“That’s for us,” he said.
