“Okay, you two,” I said ending things before they started. “I’m thinking about Jimmy.”

“The FBI agent?” Remy asked taken aback.

“You’re friends with an FBI agent?” Hil asked confused.

“Oh, not just FBI. He’s in the supernatural organized crime division,” Remy explained happy to find someone who could relate.

“You’re friends with an FBI agent who works in supernatural organized crime?” Hil said leaving Cali to question me.

“He’s a friend from elementary school. We grew up in the same building. I ran into him when I was looking for a location for Remy’s project,” I tried to explain.

“And then he asked him to be on the board of the community center,” Remy said enjoying this a little too much.

“You invited an FBI agent to be on the board of the community center?” Hil asked stunned.

“That’s what I said!” Remy added gleefully.

“There are a lot of gangs in the area. He offered to help me make the center a safe space.”

“You don’t see how that could have been a questionable decision considering who was paying for everything?” Hil pushed.

“Not you too, Hil. Look, I did what I thought was best for everybody. And, for the record, he didn’t mention the supernatural part when he told me where he worked,” I said starting to regret my decision. “But, if you want me to remove him from the board, I will.”

Seeing me begin to sweat, Remy jumped in.

“No, no. I’m sure whatever decision you make is the right one. And they offer conjugal visits in prison, don’t they? It’s not like 10 to 20 years apart could break us up.”

Cracking under the pressure, I squealed. “I’m sorry. I’ll remove him immediately.”

“We’re teasing you,” Remy explained with a smile. “Hil, tell Dillon you’re just messing with him.”

When Hil didn’t respond, Remy said it again. “Hil, tell your best friend it was a joke.”

“It was a joke,” he said half-heartedly.

I looked at Remy whose eyes bounced between his brother and Cali.

“Okay people, I’m only going to say this one more time. I am not my father. I am a legitimate business person. Our family is now completely clean. There’s nothing Dillon’s FBI friend could get us on no matter how much Dillon wants him to.”

“Remy?”

“Kidding!”

“Asshole!”

“Hillbilly.”

Hil looked at us. “Now that we’ve gotten that part of the morning out of the way, what’s next, Remy?”

“What do you mean?”

“You found Dillon. You’ve won him back. What now?”

“Come up with a plan, I guess,” Remy said unsure.

“Well, you’ve said you need our help coming up with it. How about you stay here with us?”

“With us?” Cali quickly protested.
