“It’s not a choice because I didn’t give it to you,” I snapped, shooting Juju a pointed gaze before looking at Dash. “Just keep me updated. I’m having him over tonight for the final vote.”

“Yo, King, I’m down for you, bro but can I ask you a question without it sounding disrespectful?” Dash quizzed, coming to the edge of his seat.

“You have one fucking minute, Dash.” I held up my pointer finger then waited for him to speak.

“I don’t get why you’re observing him and voting on him like he didn’t get one of our four kings killed.” I heard the heaviness in his voice when he mentioned Truck. He’d helped all of the kings at some point during his life and everyone had so much love for him.

“Like he didn’t steal from us and fuck up our money after we worked damn hard to get it. He’s a snake and he should be killed.” He held up his hands when he was done speaking then stood to his feet.

“I hear you, Dash,” Pretty Boy said. “But this is why y'all need to trust us. Even if we don’t tell you everything, just know we always have the Legion of Kings' best interest at heart. It’s still Kings over everyone.”

“Listen,” I said pushing to my feet. “Come by tonight for the vote. I like your heart and you know how to be respectful. I want you to see how real brothers handle things amongst each other.” I slapped him on the back and led him to the front door.

“Seriously?” He asked, looking at me, shock evident on his face.

“I don’t say things I don’t mean, Dash. Come through.” I opened the door and he smiled a little.

“Okay, that’s what’s up. Thanks, King. I’ll see y'all later,” He tipped his head up then left.

“Since when have you invited a lower-level. To a vote?” Pretty Boy asked his eyebrow raised.

“Since you started minding my fucking business. I got this shit, okay? Trust me.” It felt like I was asking everyone to trust me lately. I asked Juju to trust that I wouldn’t break her heart or leave her. Now, I was asking Pretty Boy to trust me about inviting Dash and asking Dash to trust my decision about Sumo.

Being in charge meant a never-ending line of people who needed help and I couldn’t turn my back on my brothers. They were all I had. I was all they had.

“Okay, damn, King. Yo, Juju you need to handle your husband. He’s getting all bitchy again.”

“Fuck you, Pretty Boy,” I responded, falling onto the couch.

“Trust me, he’ll be much nicer after tonight,” Ju called from the kitchen. Her voice was sultry and it made my dick jerk toward her like he wanted to jump in headfirst.

“That’s borderline TMI, but cool,” Pretty Boy said, shaking his head. “Juju, can I talk to you for a minute?” He motioned for her to follow him into his room and I watched to see what the conversation was about. More than likely, it was Jay.

He’d been pissed because she hadn’t returned any of his calls or texts after they fucked. She told him it was a one-time thing and I guess she kept her word. Pretty Boy couldn’t let that shit go though.

When Juju went into his room, I used the time to call Sumo.

“What’s good, King?” He answered after the first ring.

“What’s up, Sumo? I want you to come through tonight. We’re going to vote.”

“On me?” He asked.

“Yeah, on you. Don’t fucking make me rethink my choice. Come to the old spot at eight.”

“I’ll be there.” I ended the call and looked up in time to see Juju and Pretty Boy coming back to the living room. I had all my family around me. All the family I needed anyway.

“He was crying about Jay, wasn’t he?” I asked, knowingly.

“No, actually,” Juju said, sitting on my lap. “He wanted my opinion on if Jay actually liked him or not.”

“Sounds like crying to me. But what did you say?” I asked.

“I told him…” She looked at Pretty Boy as if to ask his permission since it was his business. He gave her a nod and she continued. “She likes him but she’s going to ignore him. So he wanted to make sure if he started being a ho again, she wouldn’t trip. I told him to go for it.”

“I’m trying to hold out,” Pretty Boy confessed. “Because if Jay wants me, I’ll stop fucking every chick on my list. But if I’m wasting my time…” He rubbed his hands together and smiled. I knew that smile. That was the old Pretty Boy coming back out. The Pretty Boy before Jay had his nose open. The savage.

“I love Jay like a sister and shit but if she told you what it was…believe her. Do what you gotta do,” I said, slapping hands with Pretty Boy. Juju made a noise and shook her head like she knew something we didn’t.
