His mouth was sexy.

Full and luscious lips pulled at my concentration, begging me to focus only on them. Only on what they would feel like wrapped gently around my clit.

“You didn’t have to send it but since you did…I’ll have another.” I lifted my empty glass and smiled at him. A laugh lit his face up. His deep brown skin glowed along with the purple lights illuminating the bar. He was the smoothest shade of mocha I’d ever seen. I needed immediate details on his skin care regimen.

“So, you’ll take the drinks but I can’t talk to you?”

“Why do you want to talk to me? Didn’t we bump heads earlier today?”

“We did.” He leaned back, resting a long arm around the back of my chair. He wasn’t even all over me. There was plenty of space between our chairs but I felt like he had me snug under his arm. I hated and loved it at the same time.

I had to stop thinking with my pussy.

“You look phenomenal in that dress though, and I’ve been drinking while waiting for a table to free up.”

“I do look good,” I acknowledged, running a hand along my waist. Even though I wished I had on a different dress, Bakari didn’t know that. He only knew what I showed him and I was showing him the bad bitch that I was. Nothing less.

“See? You know that shit, too. Sexy ass. You might piss me off but I can’t front on how good you look.”

“You are such a fuck boy, Bakari,” I laughed, tipping my head back.

“See, that’s where things always go south with us. You end up saying some insulting shit that pisses me off.” He sat up straight then aimed a finger at me.

“Oh, did I piss you off? Why don’t you tell your date about it?” I rolled my eyes so damn hard I could practically hear it.

“I might just do that.” He sniffed then stood up. The purple light cast an ethereal glow on his skin, making him look almost blue. He tapped the bar, calling the bartender over then he tilted his head at me. “Another bourbon for the lady.” He tossed one more look at me before going back to his seat.

When Zee came back, I was ready to leave. I didn’t want to sit there and watch Bakari and his fucking date anymore. I was over it.

“What’s wrong with you?” she asked, frowning.

“I don’t want to be here anymore. We’ve been waiting for a table forever.” I waved my hand in the air and she stared at me then looked over her shoulder at Bakari.

“You don’t want to be around Breeze anymore. Did he say something to you? Because I’ll go the fuck over there. I don’t care about him being on a date.”

“Neither does he evidently,” I huffed, standing to my feet.

“You really want to leave because of that nigga? I mean he’s fine and yes, he’s here with someone else but she ain’t got shit on you, Nai.”

“I don’t even care about that. I just want to go home.” I pushed my half-empty glass away and rubbed my temples.

“Well, you might have to wait a little longer. Ken and Eli are coming.”

My eyes nearly popped out of my head…because what the fuck did she just say to me? I blinked a few times and shook my head because I couldn’t have heard her correctly.

“Kenya and Eli are coming…here?” I jabbed my finger against the slick bar top.

“Yeah. Kenya asked where we were and I told her but I didn’t expect her to bring her ass over here. Next thing I know, Eli is in the background talking about how he’ll drive and now…we wait.”

“Youcan wait.”

“You can sit. I’m not dealing with them by myself.” When she pointed to the seat, I felt like a little kid again. I was ready to pout and stomp my damn foot just like one, too. I flopped down in the chair and she made a satisfied noise that prompted me to shove her.

“Keep your hands to yourself, little sister. From the sound of things, Mother got on Kenya and Eli’s nerves, too.” Hearing that put me at ease but only a little bit. I was so used to being the black sheep even amongst my siblings, that I didn’t want to subject myself to hearing about how proud Mother was of everyone but me.

It hurt too much.

I looked up from my nails and searched the end of the bar for Bakari and his date but their seats were empty. Zara looked at me and narrowed her eyes knowingly.
