He was right, but I still wanted to make sure him and his brothers weren’t planning to do anything fucking dumb like go after Junior on their own or some shit. So, when Bakari and I said our goodbyes, I checked to see how long it would take him to get from my house to the Temple.

It was about a thirty-minute drive with traffic.

I ran upstairs, threw on a pair of jeans and a gray sweatshirt that saidBorn in Bellmorethen I pulled my hair into a messy bun and rushed out of the door. I gave Bakari a good fifteen-minute head start knowing he’d get there before me. That was what I wanted. I was hoping to show up at the Temple right when the brothers were starting their meeting.

I knew Dice wouldn’t let me through the check-in doors, but I could cause enough ruckus to get at least Rob to come see what the hell was going on. Although Rob could be an asshole sometimes, I knew I could sway him if I tried hard enough.

I parked my car a couple of blocks away from the Temple just because I knew they had cameras outside focused on the parking lot. I wasn’t stupid. Plus, I’d never want anyone to spot my regular car at the Temple. It would raise questions that I wasn’t ready to answer.

When I reached the check-in doors, I knocked quietly. I couldn’t see inside because of the deep tint on the glass. I knew Dice could see me, though. Probably why he didn’t answer the door. I knocked again, harder that time. Still no answer.

With a frustrated sigh, I turned away from the door and lifted my knee. I aimed my foot at the door, knocking with my foot until the thick bullet-proof glass shook from the force. Before I could kick again, Dice opened the door, aiming a gun at my chest.

I greeted him with a pleasant smile and took a step forward so that the barrel of the gun pressed into my breasts. “The fuck do you want, Sanai?” His rough voice was pointed yet flat.

“I need to talk to Bakari,” I told him.

“Wait until he’s off then. You’re not getting back in here. You’ve been banned.”

“I know that. I still have a fresh scar on my thigh to remind me. I’m not here to get treated so…”

“So, shit. Get the fuck away from here before I shoot you and then you’re going to need a doctor.”

“Wouldn’t be the first time,” I quipped with a shrug.

“It’ll be the first time you get shot without access to the Temple, so don’t tempt me.”

“Look, I respect your hustle and everything, but I need to get in there. I’m not pulling anything. I come in peace. I don’t even have any weapons on me.” I batted my lashes at him, but he wasn’t moved. His scowl remained intact.

“You’re a killer. You expect me to believe you came here empty-handed? Yeah fucking right.”

“I did! I left everything in my car and I didn’t even pull up into the parking lot.”

“Because you’re not stupid. Now get back in your car and drive home and it’ll probably be the first smart decision you’ve made tonight.”

After fucking Bakari in my living room, he’d be correct.

“I guess you’re going to have to shoot me then. I’m not leaving.” I shrugged my shoulders and met his eyes.

“Fine by me.” He clicked the safety off his gun and I braced myself for a shot in the arm or leg.

“Who’s at the door?” A voice came through on Dice’s watch. I couldn’t tell which of the brothers it was because they all sounded similar.

“Sinclair,” Dice glowered at me, still keeping his gun trained. He was smart, because the second he let his pistol down, I was going to rush past him and risk the shot. I liked to live life on the edge and make sure I still could outrun anyone. I couldn’t exactly outrun a bullet but there’s a first time for everything.

“Sanai?” the voice asked.

“Of course,” Dice grumbled. “She wants to talk to you.”

It was Bakari.

My skin prickled a little at the thought of him.

“I just saw her,” Bakari fussed. Whatever annoyance was supposed to be in his tone was null and fucking void. The words were agitated but the tone was thoughtful. Almost pleasant. Something deep in my core tingled at the sound.

“I’m about to put a bullet in her ass if she doesn’t leave,” Dice told him, still scowling as he looked at me. I smiled bigger in return.

“Don’t shoot her…yet,” Bakari huffed. “I’m on my way.”
