He moved to Em’s room next, grimacing.

Getting her ready for the weekend with her mom was always a very hectic process, and the state of her room suffered severely as she struggled to choose what to take with her. That was to say, it was an absolute mess.

He scooped the natural disaster’s worth of toys up from the floor to put away and then made the sparkly purple bed, setting the army of stuffed animals in their rightful places on top of the pillows. There was an explosion of sparkly dresses and rainbow leggings hanging out of the dresser drawers, and he made quick work of folding them and tucking them away.

Mac tossed a stray stuffed unicorn onto the bed before he kneeled on the plush rug beside it. The rug looked like the unicorn had just thrown up on it because of the rainbow splash pattern, and he chuckled at the thought as he retrieved a lost sippy cup from under the bed. His back was to the closet door as he stood, and he froze when it quietly creaked open.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw movement—somethingbig.

Mac turned just in time to see a massive shadow lurching out of the closet.

It was covered in fur that was a dark red, like blood, its fangs were gleaming white, and its curved horns threatened to scratch the ceiling. It let out a terrible growl before it pounced, grabbing Mac and tackling him down into the bed.

Mac let out a short scream, the weight of the creature pinning him down and trapping him as stuffed animals flew everywhere while he squirmed. “Oh no! A monster from the closet!” he shouted dramatically, unable to stop the smile that spread across his lips. “Please don’t eat me!”

“I mean…” The monster grinned at him. “I could eat you right here, but it might be kinda weird in your kid’s room, right?”

It was just his monster boyfriend, Artie.

As it turned out, one of Em’s monster traps had been successful. It had happened over a weekend when Em was at her mother’s, and Mac had been alerted that something was up by a loud crash. He had rushed into Em’s room, baseball bat in hand and expecting a burglar, but nothing could have prepared him for the big fluffy monster tangled up in a jump rope asking politely for assistance to get out.

His name was Arthuros, Artie to his friends, and he and Mac had stayed up all night talking. Artie told him about the magical network of portals that connected their worlds, although he didn’t know why they tended to be in closets or under beds. They had a few beers, shared some laughs, and by the end of the night, well…

Mac had asked Artie out on a date.

Artie returned the very next night and they ordered pizza, watched a movie, and ended up making out right there on the couch. Mac had always considered himself to be straight, but he hadn’t been able to deny his desire for Artie. Mac preferred to think of himself asArtie-sexualsince Artie was both the only man and monster he’d ever been attracted to. They saw each other most nights after that, though it was difficult during the week since the only way for Artie to come or go was through Em’s closet.

That still didn’t stop them from having a very passionate relationship, secretive though it was, and Mac had quickly learned that Artie was a virgin. Artie’s endearing shyness was no match for Mac’s raw determination, and he was quite proud of himself for seducing a monster.

After several romantic dates and many heart-to-heart chats, of course.

Although it was a bit unusual to be going steady with the monster from his daughter’s closet, Mac had honestly never been happier. Artie was a great listener, a caring lover, and he made Mac feel so appreciated and adored. He loved the time they spent together, and he knew he was falling for his big fluffy monster with a heart of gold.

When to tell Artie that, however, well…

Maybe Mac could tell him tonight.

Artie kissed Mac and then stood up, offering his hands to help Mac to his feet. He winked, teasing, “I believe your bed is bigger, babe.”

Mac barked out a laugh, his hands practically miniature in Artie’s. “Definitely bigger.” He grinned up at him and stood on his toes so he could stroke Artie’s face. “I even put on those satin sheets you liked.”

“Aw, babe!” Artie scooped Mac up like a princess, and then he grinned wide as he carried him out of the bedroom. He smooched him noisily, gushing, “You’re the fuckin’ best.”

“Artie! Put me down!” Mac laughed even as he wrapped his arms around Artie’s thick and furry neck. He kissed him back eagerly, his cock getting hard at being so easily manhandled.

“I will!” Artie cackled. “As soon as there’s another bed in the vicinity!”

There was a definitethumpof Artie bumping into something en route to the bedroom. It was followed by a secondthwackas something else hit the floor and may have broken.

“Mm, it’s fine, I’ll fix it,” Artie mumbled.

“Don’t worry about it. I always hated that lamp.”

“Okay, good, because it’s totally fucked.”

Artie crashed into Mac’s room, hurrying over to the bed. Mac knew Artie wouldn’t let him fall no matter how clumsy he was, though he did feel relieved when Artie finally laid him across the mattress.

“Mm, baby, I missed you.” Artie kissed him sweetly.
