“What do you mean by that?” Seba scoffed, his voice booming throughout the room. “How can you claim to possess such great knowledge and yet you know nothing of Seba, god of the stars and son of Osiris? This has never been the resting place of any pharaoh! It is no tomb! It is my safe haven where I stand to wait for all of eternity!”

Brendan shuddered fearfully, stammering, “I’m sorry! Please don’t kill me. I just, I, uh, maybe, uh, missed that day at school. What, what exactly are you waiting for?”

“I’m not going to kill you.” Seba sighed. “Even though you were not here for me, some company… is greatly appreciated.”

“O… oh. That’s, that’s nice. Especially the not killing me part.”

“Wait here.” Seba rose from the bed, lumbering over to a mirrored vanity.

Brendan tried to relax, but his pulse quickened as he watched Seba walking back to him with a bowl and a towel. He tried and failed not to ogle how Seba’s biceps bulged against the linen they were wrapped in. He couldn’t be sure, but he thought the tiger god had a six pack.

And those sexy little hip lines.

He’d only ever heard them called “come gutters,” and his face heated up when his mind decided to take that information and imagine him riding those hips and spilling his load down each one.

Wow. He’d hit his head so very hard.

Seba dipped the cloth into the bowl and then dabbed Brendan’s brow. “Are you all right?” He touched Brendan’s cheek. “Your face is quite flushed.”

Brendan melted at the unexpected touch, and he grabbed Seba’s wrist. “N-no, I’m okay. I’m just… wow. Uh, this is a lot. I wanted to be the first one here, and… you’re here. And, and my head hurts. A lot.”

“The first…” Seba stiffened. “There are more of you? No, they cannot come. You should not even be here.” He tilted Brendan’s face so he could wipe at the back of his head. “My Sun is coming to free me, and I must wait for him. I cannot be disturbed.”

“What Sun? Ra?” Brendan didn’t understand, and he cringed as Seba moved the cloth over the wound.

“No.” Seba sounded frustrated. “My father, Osiris, ruled over the moon and would join with Ra at dawn and dusk. The stars were mine to command, but… I had no Sun to rise with. I refused to take the bride that had been promised to me because I have no desire for a woman. I wanted a Sun of my own, and so my father built this place for me to wait. He said that one day a new Sun would rise and come to free me, and…” He sighed. “You truly don’t know of me?”

Brendan squeezed Seba’s hand. Even though he couldn’t see his face, he could hear the sorrow and confusion in his voice. “I’ve studied the stories of Egypt for years, but I’ve never heard of you. Kinda getting the feeling that some real dickheads decided the world didn’t need a gay tiger god longing for a husband. I’m… I’m really sorry.”

Seba shuddered, and his hand trembled in Brendan’s hold. “I do not need your pity. I was a fool for trusting my father. I do not even know how long I have been down here…” He looked to the murals. “What I believed to be a sanctuary was merely a prison.”

“Hey! It doesn’t have to be!” Brendan protested. “You’re free now! It’s okay! It’s been, well, kind of a long time, and I’m really sorry that you were forgotten.” He frowned. “I know what that’s like.”

“Oh?” Seba’s voice sounded as if he was smiling. “You have been tricked into being locked away for many lifetimes?”

“No, not exactly. Well, I… I was abandoned.” Brendan took a deep breath. “Not a lot of people know this, but I was adopted. My birth parents just didn’t come to pick me up from school one day. I was six. Standing out there with my teacher, watching the cars go by, wishing one of them was my mom or dad and that they’d just come and get me. Yeah, it felt like a lifetime. Two at least.”

“I am very angry for you.” Seba cupped the side of Brendan’s face. “That must have been frightening. What happened to you? Who came?

“My teacher is actually the one who adopted me. Him and his boyfriend. I was even the ring bearer at their wedding a few years later.” Brendan smiled. “I got to be a part of a family that wanted me. You could make a new family too. Maybe some friends? There’s a whole world out there.”

Seba shook his head. “I have no place in this time. You will rest and then you will leave. I… I must keep waiting.”

“Come on! Don’t say that.” Brendan struggled to sit up. “You don’t have to stay here locked up forever.”

Seba dipped the towel back in the water, wiping again at Brendan’s wound. He seemed defeated and fell silent, but then he froze. Hundreds of candles flickered to life out of nothing, lighting up the room like someone had flicked a switch. “Your hair…”

“What?” Brendan cringed. “It’s probably gross. I’ve been in the desert for weeks and now it’s bloody and… Are you staring at me? I’m pretty sure you’re staring at me right now.”

“I do not wish to seem impolite.” Seba petted Brendan’s hair reverently, as if it was something precious. “Your hair is golden. Like the sun.”

“Yeah? I’m blond. I mean, it’s like a dirty blond, but sure, I guess it’s like the sun kinda.” Brendan had no idea what was going on, but he didn’t want Seba to stop playing with his hair. Being stuck in the sand for so long without much privacy to handle certain frustrations amplified the simple affection and sent some very excited signals down to his dick. He tried to ignore them. “Is… is that a bad thing?”

“I have seen very few golden-haired men in my life,” he said softly. “I have been waiting for so long for my Sun to find me and perhaps now he finally has… completely by accident.”

Brendan blinked.

And then he laughed.
