“Yes, and I understand if you need time to make a decision—”

“Yes!” Max squeezed Krumm’s neck. “Fuck to the yes, I’m yours.” He kissed Krumm passionately. “I love you. I love you so much. You just tell me when we’re going and I’m gone.”

Krumm chuckled in delight. “Well, this is going much better than I expected.”

“I still want to be able to visit here and check on my dad.”

“Of course.”

“And I want to finish college. I mean, I know I have to start it before I can technically finish, but you know what I mean.”

“Of course, my love.” Krumm chuckled. “I will see to it that you attend the finest schools that my world has to offer, to study whatever you’d like.”

“I… I don’t even know.” Max laughed. “I’ve spent so long wanting to go and I honestly have no idea what I even want to do.”

“It’s a very good thing then that you will have all the time in the world to decide.”

“Thank you. Thank you so much.” Max kissed him firmly. “You’re amazing.”

“As are you, my sweet boy. Are you ready to go then?” Krumm grinned slyly. “I must admit I am a bit eager to claim you.”

“There’s gonna be sex, right?”

“Absolutely.”

Max glanced over at the frozen people. “Okay, just one quick thing. Are they gonna be okay?”

“Oh? Them?” Krumm smirked. “Yes, sweet boy. As soon as you’re ready, I will unfreeze them and we shall return to our dream world one last time together. If you truly want to be mine, I must mark you as my mate, and then I will show you my home. It is to be your home too now.”

“But I thought I was already marked?” Max touched his throat where the collar always was in his dreams.

“My people do something a bit more… permanent.”

“Kinky.”

“Are you ready?” Krumm asked.

“Yes.” Max reached for Krumm’s hand. “Let’s go.” He saw the people flailing back to life as Krumm laced their fingers together, and then suddenly the house was gone. The yard, the street, all of it was gone in a poof as Max blinked and found himself standing back in the red room he’d spent so many nights in with Krumm.

It felt different now, and everything was more clear than it had been before. Max figured it was because this was the first time he’d been here while actually being awake. He could see every detail of the tufted velvet and the lush bed, and best of all, Krumm’s smile was a thousand times more brilliant as he beamed down at him.

“My people use the needles of our tails and ink made from the volcanic rocks of our world to tattoo our skin,” Krumm said as he cupped Max’s cheek. “These designs are special. They are a tapestry passed from one generation to the next that tell the story of our families.”

“They’re beautiful.” Max smiled, leaning into Krumm’s hand. “I’ve always thought so.”

“Thank you.” Krumm kissed his brow. “Now, when we choose a mate, we merge certain elements of our tattoos with theirs and add to the tapestry. When and if we have children, the children receive a combined version of their parents’ tapestries. When they come of age, of course.”

“What happens if you get divorced?”

“Cover-ups are not uncommon.” Krumm cleared his throat. “Because you do not have a tapestry of your own, I am going to create one for you. It is my gift for you, one that I hope you will accept.”

“Do I get to see it?”

“It’s a surprise.” Krumm’s eyes twinkled with mischief. “Do you trust me?”

“Yes.”

“Yes, what?”
