“Can we still sleep in?”

“Just for a minute.” Matt chuckled. “Today is also cleaning day, you know.”

“We’re sleeping in for a very long time.”

“Not very long.”

“Just a little long.”

“Okay, just a little.” Matt smiled and closed his eyes, rubbing Fidi’s back as he snuggled in close.

Life with Fidi was perfect.

Matt could have never imagined that the emerald boa he’d bought from a local pet store was actually a beautiful snake-man in disguise. Meeting Fidi had completely changed Matt’s life. Fidi was the best boyfriend Matt had ever had, and the last year of living together had been a dream come true.

They both enjoyed hanging out and watching movies, and Matt taught Fidi how to play some of his favorite video games so they had something else to enjoy doing as a couple. Fidi had recently expressed interest in learning how to cook too so he could help Matt out more in the kitchen. The sex was out of this world, the romance overflowing with passion, and Matt fell more in love with Fidi every single day.

If Matt had one small complaint, however, it was Fidi’s habit of escaping the apartment.

Fidi never went very far, and Matt had no idea how he managed to get around without being seen by someone, whether as a snake or his more humanoid form. Brief or not, these daring adventures terrified Matt.

Oh, and Fidi almost never came home alone.

Any living creature that Fidi found in need came back with him.

There was Nutty, the squirrel with the broken leg; Pogo, the lost baby opossum; Sissy, the abandoned blind kitten; and at least half a dozen more. Matt wasn’t the most experienced with taking care of animals that weren’t reptiles, but he couldn’t refuse any critter in need. With Fidi’s help, he cared for their new friends until they found local shelters and rescues that could take them in.

Matt did his best to discourage Fidi’s field trips, but Fidi insisted that he was being safe and couldn’t help himself when he knew there were animals out there in need.

It was honestly just one more reason Matt loved Fidi so much—his big heart.

Matt woke a little while later, and he groaned when he saw it was almost ten o’clock. He patted Fidi’s hip, grumbling, “Okay, now it’s really time to get up.”

Fidi growled.

“Cleaning day. Gotta clean all the things.”

Fidi dug in closer and growled again.

“I’ll let you pick the movie—”

“Fern Gully!”

“Again?” Matt grinned as he grabbed his glasses off the bedside table. “Okay, deal. Now come on, baby. Let’s get up.”

“Only because you asked me so nicely.”

“I had to bribe you,” Matt teased as Fidi slithered out of bed.

“That’s asking nicely!” Fidi flashed a toothy grin back at Matt.

Matt headed to the bathroom to use the toilet and wash up, and then he walked out to the kitchen in search of coffee. He smiled when there was already a cup waiting for him. “Aw, thank you, baby.”

“You’re welcome.” Fidi smiled proudly. “I have mastered the art of the java.”

Matt took a sip. “Mm, that you have.”

Fidi eyed the giant terrariums that lined the wall between the kitchen and the living room. “Who is our first victim?”
