He led Cephus past the broken elevator to the stairs and up the three flights to his floor. It was hard to resist skipping them two at a time. He didn’t know why, but Cephus made him feel like a kid out on his first date, and his cock was already stiffening in his jeans.

“Sorry for the hike,” Karl said. “That piece of shit has been out of order for two years.”

“Ain’t no big deal.” Cephus winked. “I ain’t afraid to sweat.”

The stained orange carpet was a couple shades darker than the peeling yellow floral wallpaper, and the floor creaked as they walked to Karl’s door. He fumbled for his keys and then let them into his apartment.

“Sorry for the mess.” Karl grinned sheepishly as he flipped the light on. The apartment was furnished with old mismatched items, most of which were covered in old takeout containers, but there wasn’t much in the way of personal items.

“It’s totally fine. Heh. I been in worse.”

“That’s good to know.”

“Look, I don’t…” Cephus seemed nervous too, and he confirmed it by saying, “I don’t exactly do this a lot.”

“Do what?” Karl shrugged out of his coat and then dropped it in a ratty gray recliner. “Help pull a dead body from a car and then come have drinks and sex with a random stranger? That’s not what everyone does on a Saturday night?”

“All of the above.” Cephus ducked his head. “I’m not exactly from ’round these parts.”

“Yeah, your accent kinda gave that away.” Karl moved into the small kitchen, quickly shoving the dirty dishes into the first cupboard he could. “Uh, beer? Whiskey?”

“Whiskey’s fine.”

Karl grabbed a bottle from above the stove and two mismatched McDonald’s Batman collector glasses. He filled each one before heading back to the living room, pausing in the doorway.

Cephus had taken off his coat to drop beside Karl’s in the recliner, and he was wearing a worn T-shirt with the sleeves cut off. His arms were sculpted perfection. The vision stopped Karl right in his tracks as Cephus stretched, and he swallowed.

“Uh, here.” Karl offered out a glass.

“Thanks.”

“So, where you from anyway?”

“The south.” Cephus grinned crookedly.

“The south, huh?”

“Yup.” Cephus took a big sip. The sip turned into a gulp, and he finished the whiskey off with a soft hiss.

Not to be outdone, Karl downed his glass.

“Heh. Sorry.” Cephus’s face flushed. “Like I said, I don’t usually go right home with guys. Even the really hot ones.”

“Yeah, well, I consider myself incredibly lucky then. One sec, I’ll get us some more.” Karl returned to the kitchen for the bottle of whiskey, opting to simply bring it out with him.

Cephus was sitting on the couch, though he looked ready to spring back up again. He smiled, holding out his empty glass to be refilled. “Much obliged.”

“No problem.” Karl poured and then sat beside him. Filling his own glass he said, “It’s been a real long time since I had anybody here. Or anywhere for that matter.”

“Same. I, uh, I work a lot. Ain’t got much time for anything, you know… romantic.”

“Well, I’m real glad you’re here.”

Cephus’s cheeks pinked up, and his shy smile was absolutely adorable as he shuffled his feet over the worn floor. “Well, you know, after somethin’ like that, I kinda figured neither one of us would wanna be alone.”

“Yeah, no, that’s… That is absolutely true. I’m definitely not gonna be sleeping for a while. Not that I sleep much anyway.”

“Fuckin’ same.” Cephus paused to take a drink. “Ain’t never got the time. No time for a man, for sleep, not for nothin’. Too much work to do.”
