“I guess so.”

Sage turned and headed for her SUV. Dante watched her walk away. Her walk was brisk but then her phone nearly slipped from her hands.

Nerves?

No doubt. But he had to admire her bravado. Very few people would meet up with bikers, especially when outnumbered 5 to 1.

Then Dante realized he’d been staring at her for far too long. She was staring right back at him from behind the wheel until she turned the car on. The glare from the headlights finally broke him out of his trance.

Get your mind back in the game.

He straddled his bike and drove off.

While Sage was heading back down the road to her home, Dante was driving in the opposite direction.

He needed to clear his head and there was nothing like the open road to do just that.

When his PTSD reared up, he would often go on two- and three-day trips. There was no plan, he just picked a road and kept driving. And he stopped at whatever shitty motels were around. Then he’d hit up a dive bar, find a willing woman to fuck, and head home feeling better.

An hour into his drive, his phone vibrated.

He pulled over to the side of the road and checked his messages.

Xander: There’s an update on the package. Crew meeting in thirty.

I’m an hour away.

Xander: I’ll tell Gage.

Dante put his phone away and peeled out again, heading west.

He made it home in just under an hour and quickly headed into the clubhouse. Everyone was gathered in the living room.

Xander stood up. “We had two potential IDs for the severed hand that was gifted to Gage the other night. I found out a short while ago that Leon Hallows, one of the founding members of the original H&H club, isn’t one of them. He passed away five years ago in a boating accident. Cashel Flood, however, is MIA. He’s been in and out of prison for the past fifteen years and was last reported seen in Calgary by his parole officer.”

“How long is it gonna take to get the final ID?” Gage asked.

“I got my contact doing a rush job for me. I should know more in two days.”

Sonny shook his head. “Still, what the fuck does this former crew member have to do with us now?”

“Cashel was a member of the Midnight Carnage crew, B.C. chapter, as of 2019,” Xander explained. “He was arrested in 2021 when the cops raided one of the crew’s drug manufacturing sites in Kelowna. He served time until last year and was released early on parole for good behavior. He was last seen in Canmore. Then his trail disappears.”

“Last year…isn’t that around the time Sage’s sister Rosemary went missing?” Dante asked.

Xander nodded. “A former Hellraiser, who Gage hasn’t seen in almost two decades, ends up with a rival crew, and then ends up missing.”

“Also, our neighbor, Sage, might be useful. I checked out that file she compiled, and it looks like she was telling the truth.”

“Dante, you’ve talked to her more than anyone here,” Gage interrupted. “What do you think about working with her?”

Dante stood up. “I think it’s worth a shot. I don’t like dealing with outsiders any more than the rest of you, but we’ve got two businesses burnt to the ground and we need all the help we can get. It’s a risk, but as long as we keep a close eye on her, we’ll be all right.”

“We know just how close you wanna keep her,” Jackson chuckled, and the rest of the crew cheered and whistled.

Dante gave them all two middle fingers for the ribbing and then sat his ass back down.

Gage paced in front of Xander. “Okay. Let’s see what details Sage has got on Midnight. Then we form a plan of attack. And I mean attack.”
