Avery nodded. “Midnight Carnage. And what about who he spends time with when he’s there?”

Sage walked over to point at additional pictures. “I took these two weeks ago, over a period of three days. He’s never seen with any of the bikers but, he exited the club with this woman. She’s a stripper named Naria Soren. When I compared this to the surveillance pictures I took outside the Midnight Carnage compound, I found out that she’s a regular.”

“She’s a sweet butt,” Dante whispered.

“Yes,” Sage replied and rolled her eyes at the term. “A regular at their parties. Maybe even a girlfriend but I haven’t been able to pinpoint which member. I need to get closer.”

“We have to get Cameron and Naria,” Dante stated.

“I want in on any interrogation with those two, so you better leave them alive,” Sage warned. “Especially Cameron. My gut tells me that his police friend might know who killed my sister since the investigation is stalling. And I want to know everything.”

Avery nodded. “Our plan of attack should be two pronged. We get Naria and Cameron from the strip club and bring them back here. I’ll take that on with Jesse and Jackson. And then we figure out a way to get into the Midnight compound. Which is where we come back to you.”

“Agreed,” Dante turned to Sage. “We get you to pretend to be my ol’ lady. An unhappy one like Gage suggested. And then you’ll make a play for one of Midnight’s crew so you can gain access to their place. We need someone on the inside to get pictures and grab whatever they can. You’re the only one they won’t know and won’t suspect.”

Sage stared at him. Then an idea occurred.

“The Flamingo!” she exclaimed.

“The dive bar?”

“Yes. It’s halfway between Longford and Canmore, and I’ve tailed the Midnight crew there most weekdays. That’s it!”

“How the fuck do you know about that place?” Dante demanded as he stepped forward, so close that Sage could see the tiny flecks of gold in his eyes.

Sage shook her head. “Please. I’ve been following the crew for months now. It’s the right spot. We can make a scene there.”

“A scene?”

“Yes, you know, you say something stupid, and I get pissed off and then stomp off to find another biker to fuck. Someone from the Midnight crew who will come to my rescue.”

Dante’s expression darkened. “First, you gotta change the way you dress and talk before we even think of stepping in there. Get rid of the ice princess routine.”

“Excuse me?” Sage snapped and stepped closer to him.

Anger, and something much more alarming, crackled between them.

Dante wasn’t like the men she’d been around back in B.C. He didn’t smell like expensive cologne or dress in suits or try to be coy with her. Dante was leather and gun oil and gasoline. Rough scruff and brawny muscles. Full lips and dangerous eyes. Direct and blatant in his words and his sexuality.

“I’ll get her fitted up and give her a training run,” Avery interrupted. “You’re coming back to the clubhouse.”

Sage was grateful for the distraction even though she was leery of entering their compound. She stepped back, realizing that she was breathing hard and sweating.

“I’m ready. Just let me talk to my farm hands first,” Sage replied. “By the way, any update on the cause of the fire?”

Avery shook her head. “It’s arson but that’s all we know. Police have been calling my father and I expect he’ll be called in for questioning at some point. When I get my hands on Padraig—”

“You?” Dante scoffed. “Don’t forget Gage, Sonny, me. That man is going to wish he’d never fucked with us.”

“I get a crack at him first,” Sage interrupted.

Dante and Avery stared at her in silence.

“What? I didn’t upend my life for no reason. He’s going straight to hell and I’m going to send him there.”

The words flew out of her mouth before she could stop them.

For the first time, Sage surprised even herself.
