When she met Dante’s heated gaze, she had no words.

She’d never been so annoyed and yet so relieved to see anyone in her life.

Dante

Sage looked like she’d been to hell and back.

Literally.

When Dante saw her running down that driveway, all his fears for her safety turned to relief. And then that relief turned to rage. She could’ve died in there and there would have been nothing he could have done.

Nothing.

A sharp and powerful fear gripped him, and the panic rising made his throat close over.

He didn’t care that her safety wasn’t his business. Dante was making it so.

When they got back to the clubhouse, he was going to haul her over his knee and redden her ass until she couldn’t sit.

How dare she make him feel like this?

She’d been running in bare fucking feet, and they were bleeding, not to mention she was gasping for air, and her makeup was streaked, tears running down her face.

When she got in the car, she barely had time to close the door.

“Did you hear me? You got a fucking death wish, woman?” Dante yelled as he turned around.

“Maybe I do,” she panted. “I did it! I fucking did it! Look what I got.”

She pulled three cell phones out of her jacket, along with keys, as she leaned forward to show Sonny. Her hands were shaking so hard, she nearly dropped them.

“I got their phones! I got pictures of Padraig’s place. This is a fucking jackpot. Oh my god, I’m so scared and yet I feel so goddamn incredible!” she gasped.

“You sure you ain’t got biker blood in you?” Wyatt quipped.

Sonny turned to Dante. “You know what this means.”

“Yes,” Sage interjected. “If Xander can hack into their phones, there might be all kinds of information we can use to our advantage.”

Dante scoffed. “Not just that. We’ll be on lockdown.”

“You mean, you have to stay on the compound?”

“Yeah. And that goes for you too,” Dante growled.

“I’ll be safe on the farm.”

“With what? A llama to protect you?” Dante snapped.

Wyatt and Sonny chuckled.

“Bikers don’t fuck around. You’re staying with us. The farm will have to wait.”

“Now, you listen—” Sage started.

“No, you listen!” Dante leaned between the seats, pointing his finger in Sage’s face. “What do you think’s gonna happen when the rest of the Midnight crew get back? The war has been declared, and there ain’t nowhere to hide. You want to win this fight? You want vengeance for your sister’s death? I said it before but in case you didn’t listen, you work with us, but we’re in charge. You need to learn how to obey orders before you get yourself killed!”

“In case you forgot, I’m not a member of your army!” Sage yelled back, her eyes spitting green fire. “Or any for that matter. I’m my own boss.”
